Last time Washington DC had more than 7.4" of snow for the "entire" month of January was 14 years ago in 2000.

They have 1.9" so far this month

6" and still falling. I had to let the horses out in it because I will have to keep them locked up tomorrow and Wednesday due to the temp drop and wind chills.

Couple of Forecasts out there. Is TWC that conservative with just 3-5 near the coast? They mention Ocean Effect snows for Boston and cape too.

If you guys can find more post them please.

Here's some Daily snowfall numbers to beat on Jan 21st for a new record.

BDR 6.2".
BWI 2.0"
Islip 5.0"
NYC 6.0"
Atlantic City 1.8"
Philly 3.4"
Newark 4.5"

I see some daily records will be broken already. Bridgeport & NYC will be tough but close maybe.

Was Philly's from 2012? Obviously, that was a pretty lousy winter, but I remember we got a few inches that weekend, which was the most that year in a single snow event. It was Saturday the 21st.

A look at the 3pm temps out there 24hrs before the snowstorm. Some spots 10-15 above norm warming that surface.

Not sure but 1/21/12 they got 2.3" so it cant be that year. The dailies are listed by totals not dates unfortunately but I'm sure there's a place out there we can see them.

BTW... One fascinating ingredient in weather for me is the vertical velocity. In simple terms, it's air being lifted from the surface into the atmosphere which enhances moisture and drops down harder. Useful in all seasons... You use the 700mb VV to see which areas have the best lift...

Here's a tweet from Mike for tomorrow.

"One thing that should NOT be overlooked- the dynamics of this event Tue PM! Snow rates will GO nuts in MD, DE & S NJ "
