Neat how both cities needed just a little bit of snow to break records.

Philly's record is actually much higher. A winter I will always remember. 78.7 inches in the winter of 2009-2010. I doubt that will be broken this winter. We'd probably need at least two more major snowstorms. I'd be content with (and we'd be lucky to get) just one more, I think.

Real Siberian heat wave going on indeed. Oymyakon up into the positive single digits Fahrenheit, up from -73F/-58C earlier in the month. History : Weather Underground

Even Yakutsk's forecast calls for temperature of up to 1F above zero. Yakutsk, Russia Forecast : Weather Underground

How do these people cope with all that heat?

Looking ahead past mid week...

Quick warm-up coming but GFS/EURO hinting at stormy and maybe wintry precip returning again. (if that happens, I will be wrong about the pattern change from cold)

Natural Waffles that far out but it's looking stormy moving forward.

Euro says snowstorm evening of 24th.
GFS rainstorm morning of 23rd
GFS says snowstorm morning of 28th.

So it doesn't look like the stormy pattern will relax. We'll have to see how temps behave meanwhile.
