But at least the battle between winter and spring is beginning.
As it should since we are in the last two weeks of winter. However the forecast anomalies are for colder than normal at least for the first half of March if not for the entire month. I actually DO NOT want to see colder than normal conditions past the first week of March. At that point, I want a quick transition to spring (actually summer), especially after a proper winter like the one we are going through here in the Midwest.
First temperature above freezing this month is going to come in a thaw next week, right around when the average high reaches freezing. It's been a very cold start to the month, great for me but awful to people who hate the cold.
The 0.8 Inches of Snowfall that Indianapolis, Indiana received today boosts the winter seasonal total snowfall to 51.3 inches, breaking the all time record winter snowfall of 51.0 inches, set back in the winter of 1981-1982. And with the Potential for a Wintry Mix on Monday, Indianapolis could conceivably add to the seasonal total this winter, either way, the winter of 2013-2014 is now Indianapolis's Snowiest Winter Season on record.

^^Indy is sure in a dry spot for snowfall if the previous record seasonal snowfall was a paltry 51".
Higher elevations of Alabama have seen close to 20" for the season. As far south as Alexandria, LA has near 5". This was a historic winter for most... but here? nah. I'll take the dustings
Glad everyone is enjoying the season, it was a good hit for most of the eastern 2/3rds of the country.
Major Warmup on the way. Deep South is getting "perfect" weather with temperatures in the mid 70's. I for one wish the cool weather would stick around longer, just without any snow or rain. Houston might hit 78 F, with humidity too (low is 69 F). They will be very happy .
Light snowfall with temps in 30s led to some melting while temps dropped like a rock. Salt is not effective when temps are 19F/-7C and feels like 10F/-12C.
Roads are slick and icy and hidden underneath the snow in spots.
