Agreed. Even though SoCoast has sprawl, it still has that buzz of life that enables me to live there. I don't think you find that buzz in other places though.
Over 10,000 ppsm isn't "extremely high density". I'd call extremely high density at least 70,000-80,000 ppsm. There are entire cities that are well over 10k ppsm.
10K is not "extremely" high density... Not around here anyway.
It depends how big the city is (land wise)- I don't like grocery shopping! if I'm able to get a few things here and there every other day without starting the car and dealing with supermarket crowds, I'm set.
10K-15K is ideal- Give or take.
I would hate to live somewhere with a population density lower than 6,000- I like nature and all, but nature should be with nature. I'm willing to start the car when I want a dose of rural.

I don't agree with the classifications here. Your guidelines for low density go up to 3,000? That may not be as dense as a lot of cities, but it's not low density either. I think 1,000 is slightly dense.

yeah, we already went over that. read the first page. Too late to change the poll.
Ask the high density junkies who use that as an excuse to put down cities that are so awesome they can't find anything else to gripe about
no, you are missing the point, there is a commonality to the most virbrant urban neighborhoods in the country, and they are mostly high density. It is more if you prefer that style it is not availble in all cities. Density seems to be necessary to deliver on the vibrance of certain areas. menaing typically you can walk or easily grab a cab, the cafes/bars/restaraunts spill seemlessly out in to the establishments ans there is a vibe in the air that seems to be fueled by the level of pedestrian activity. This many times comes from the 30K plus neighborhoods. But not everyone desires that, to each their own.
people argue when there are threads that claim the level of vibrancy in areas that is not available. You can find the ultra urban to rural in every major metro in the NE, and everything in between it is the highest end vibrancy that I have not found mimiced without the density, so people argue that many cities do not have this offering. Do they have hospitals, universities, jobs, houses, malls, etc. yes - but many do not have neighborhoods that offer the electricity that some people like
