I live in an area now that is 6000 ppsm and i think it is good for me. It has the lots of people feel without instead of the tripping over people feel.
Also for what it is worth. I would not call 10,000 extrmely high density. I actually prefer areas 30K plus, but again this is my preferance, not right or wrong. I do choose this because I believe there are aspects provided by this urban developed space that are difficult to reporduce in lesser density. Now many people will also prefer attributes that can not exist in an area that has higher density which is also correct and their preferance

You would not? For me most areas with more than 10K is a little too dense for me. I don't like too tall and if it is not up then you lose things like parks and stuff which I also like

it doesnt have to be tall either, look at areas of NYC, Philly, Chicago, Boston, DC - many 30+K with only two and three story structures
my neighborhood is about 35K and mostly rowhomes and walkups
I prefer my space. I live in an area with a bunch of 30 story-ish buildings and I like it fine. When we buy a house, I want a place where people are not stacked on each other. Thats why I could never live in a Northeastern city. Just not my taste.

Yeah I think a lot of people's opinions change based on transportation and other factors.
I like my space too, but I also like being around people. My dogs would kill me if I confined them to a place without open space.
I chose to live next to a park and single family homes with them in mind.
My neighborhood has a population density of 8000 to 9000 ppm. It is mostly single family homes with some mostly 2-story apartment buildings. It's location is urban, but it's atmosphere is mostly suburban. Therefore, I can't consider 10,000 ppm to be Extremely High Density. The most dense parts of San Diego are at 25,000 ppm, and those areas consist of mostly 2 to 3 story apartment buildings with a fair number of single family homes still mixed in. That hardly seems to be a replication of Hells Kitchen.
So maybe 10,000 - 30,000 ppm should be High Density, and 30,000 and greater should be Extremely High Density.
yeah, looking at it now, the 10K and the 3k limits does seem low
Too late to change it now though
