The USS Dallas already has the authorization from naval officials to be transferred to Dallas once it is decommissioned this coming year. The museum that it will call home will be built mostly by private funds.
It's going to be in a museum (probably completely surrounded by dry land), not cruising about.

WOW,

This reminds me of a future NFL Super Bowl match up: Dallas Cowboys (NFC) vs. Houston Texans (AFC).

I hadn't heard of the USS Dallas submarine going to Dallas (I live in Houston), but I think the having it presented in a venue like Trinity Lakes would make for a much cooler visitor experience. Despite being in a freshwater lake (which would be kinda weird, if one thinks about it), it would more satisfying than if it were on dry ground.

On a whimsical note, if the Trinity River Barge Canal had ever (or would ever) be built, could one imagine that the submarine might be able to navigate it to the Gulf?

You do know that they want to build a dry birth for the USS Texas right? And both ships at Seawolf Park in Galveston are dry birthed as well..

It cuts way down on maintenance cost. Water is very corrosive you know!

I hadn't heard that a dry berth for the USS Texas was a sure thing. I wish they would keep it in water, but I realize that would not come cheap.

The Texas is an old ship; it was used in WW I as well as WW II. My uncle served on it in the latter war as an ensign. In its current location, we visited it a number of times since the 50s. Since then, the first big change I remember was when they tore out the original wood deck planks and replaced them with concrete. I think they were already having leakage problems at that time. Those problems have continued, which led to repeated consideration of dry-berthing it.

So, I recognize the problems and the solutions that are being considered. I'm just saying that I would prefer we spent the money to preserve and display them in water. If that's not practical, embedding them in dirt next to water is the next best thing. OK?

Eh...As usual, Dallas fails to tell us what's unique about it. I didn't see anything in that video showing me something I can't get in another city.

It is. Not only does it have its own fattening foods and rides, but we also have performances from the biggest names in music. This year Usher, Robin Thicke, and Maroon 5 will be at the Rodeo.
