One think that G'ville and the upstate is far better for is if one is a football fan. Football is HUGE up there. Not so much in Charleston. They take tennis, soccer, running and cycling as serious as football, or even more so. As a big football fan, I miss the upstate in that regards.

Again, don't really care about the population thing, but statistically, Mount Pleasant has now passed Greenville, and is the 4th largest "city" in the state, behind North Charleston, both of which are Charleston suburbs. Then, the uncounted 20,000 or so folks living on the AF and Navy bases, the 50,000 or so tourists in town year round it seems, and well, Charleston is getting AWFULLY crowded. With Boeing here now, and the outer parts of the metro area exploding in growth, I think the Charleston area is gonna be unbearably crowded soon. Light rail trains are being mentioned. We may need it within a few years, no more rooms for cars.

Greenville can't annex. Really a much larger city. I won't go through it again. You know this already.

One question. Where do all of the 450k+ people in Greenville county go to shop? Thats what we business people look at when locating somewhere.

I don't know that. Really don't care either way. Anderson could be the biggest city in SC and I wouldn't care.

But I've lived in Charleston 10 years, Greenville 5 and 18 in Spartanburg growing up. Charleston looks, feels and seems bigger to me and most who've been both places. Maybe all the countless thousands of tourists here year round. Not population counted residents, but warm bodies that makes this place seem a lot bigger than the census numbers.

Either way, don't really care. I kinda wish Charleston was 1/2 the size it is now so it wouldn't be so crowed. The 10,000 or so cruise ship passengers roaming around now that they are docking here weekly doesn't help. Kinda miss the more spread out, open feel of the upstate.

I suppose they go to the mall, like the other 4.5 million people in South Carolina? Or North Charleston maybe? North Charleston is the states #1 retail city by numbers/$$'s or however they measure that.

I think the reason it "feels" and "looks" bigger is because the Air and Navy bases have between 5-10,000 people living on them, and there are 4,000,000 tourists per year there (which if they stay 1 week makes about an extra 70,000 warm bodies in town on any given day).

So while Charlestons official metro area pop is appx 665,000, and G'villes is appx 637,000, the actual warm body population of Charleston Metro when you count the military folks on federal property and the infamously heavy tourist population there, then any given day it's well over 700,000-725,000 actual warm bodies in town making that place feel more "big" or crowded.

Which, btw, is NOT a good thing. It's too croweded here. I'm growing tired of it.

You seem easily impressed. And, you know that tourism is a big pillar for the Charleston economy. Why complain about it? Move, if you're not happy, or take refuge in Summerville. I don't get it.

Lol, you are wrapped into your own perception aren't you brother. The state revolves around Charleston. Lol. How large is the Charleston csa? Just curious. Seriously.

Charleston doesn't have one, so its CSA would be the same as its MSA definition.
