This is the mystery of it all. My aunt regularly attended community events and club events, but no one ever asked her out. She had to do it herself. I don't think it's just on C-D that men are afraid to approach women, or assume they're already taken. (Even if they attend events alone.) This seems to be an issue in our culture in general.
I've been going to places and events for years alone and never once have I been approached or asked out. I have zero issues talking to people, or starting up conversations...but I guess I'm just not considered relationship material.

I think the OP will have much more success than she realizes though. As long as she isn't always hitting on the hottest guy in the room (those guys can be jerks) I bet she gets more numbers than she knows what to do with.
