I have never met a left-wing person who did not agree that the answer to every problem could be resolved with a new bloated program run by the federal government, and funded by increased taxes.
You havent met many left-wing persons then, though you have "met" me.

The people in those polls, whichever ones they are, dont sound as ifthey thought the matter through very far, back in Nov. They'll be back when the fashion turns.

Jenny, I don't consider myself to be on the left, never have. For a good 20 years my voter status was "Independent" but G. W. Bush was so totally wrong and awful it pushed me in the DEM column. Ironically, I loved his father, though he wasn't perfect either, but G. H. W. Bush was a guy I really loved, voted for twice and still admire GREATLY.

I don't want anything exotic or extreme. I consider myself very central. To me, the closest I can get to an "ideal" is the following:

- Health Care for all our citizens. It's a right. I want that cost off the backs of our corporate world so they can better compete, be it small business types or the biggies like GM (who are handcuffed by paying about $1500.00 per car for the health care of their employees/retirees, but the foreign firms do NOT have to pay such costs). We're killing our businesses with these costs.

- Balanced budgets. We had these ten years ago, then Bush screwed it up in 2001. I want tax rates put back where they were in 2001 and I want a lot of stupid spending stopped. IMO stupid spending is the ethanol subsidy, where we taxpayers are robbed of 51-cents for every gallon of that stupid stuff made, and especially because it takes as much energy to make a gallon of ethanol as you get back from a gallon of the stuff, thus we are spending 51-cents a gallon to just break even. Stupid? Hell yes. Then there's the oil depletion allowance that should go away. There are thousands of tax breaks and loopholes inserted in our tax laws by special interests and sell-out creeps in Congress (both parties) and I want those closed unless economists can validate them as worthy.

- Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). I want a SEC that has teeth, instead of the insipid case of not catching Bernie Madoff. Today's news reports indicate the SEC blew a 1992 investigation of him that should have caught him them. But he's small potatoes to what has happened to the overall financial community since Glass-Steagall Act was gutted by Phil Gramm and others. I want EFFECTIVE regulation again. I want to restore the world's confidence that the NYSE is THE best place in the world to invest your money, that it will be safe from the sort of insane shenanigans we've seen for the last 8 years.

- Borders. Close the damned borders and get real. Both parties are guilty of looking the other way since the 1986 amnesty for 6M illegals. Now we have 12M more of them and they are a huge burden to us. Businesses love the illegals because they work for substandard wages and no benefits. If they get hurt, they get fired and we eat the cost in our hospital emergency rooms. The GOP business mantra is to keep the profit in their private accounts and stick we taxpayers with the social costs of their medical care and the care and education of their children.

- Get on with alternative energy. I want this nation off of foreign oil and onto the use of wind, sun, natural gas, and nuclear power. I want a government that is not run by the oil companies and their Saudi pals.

- I want religion OUT of our government; it does NOT belong there, it's a personal choice. Thus abortion is to be left up to single women, couples and their doctors. This is not a governmental issue. I also favor stem cell research if recommended by peer-reviewed medical ethicists, not some clown like James Dobson who is only interested in keeping up his stream of funding and donations from well-meaning people of faith who've been spun up with a lot of hype.

- Gay marriage. Probably the most "leftist" of my views is to let these people have their civil right to marry. Again, its NOT for the government to decide who you or I may love and/or who we marry. Let the government / IRS recognize it, the various churches can bless it or reject it as they see fit, but the rights of citizens should not be blocked by Mullah Dobson.

I don't think these things make me a "leftist" by any stretch of the word. I'm not a socialist either, though I do recognize that by pooling our money via the tax collector we can build the sort of infrastructure that a great country has to have. This is not at all leftist, those who think so fail to understand that our nation MUST invest in its OWN future, not the future of the Saudi sheiks or the Dubai emirates who are building huge fantastical cities with OUR money.

I want to go to the Twilight Zone, and hit the delete button on all Rabid Right Wingers. They remind me of Moonies. They can't be reasoned with. Of course, they feel the same about Progressives, so the "Righties" can also have a delete button for "Lefties." It would be fine with me. I am safe.....in the Twilight Zone. (eerie music theme)

"Noble"? Referring to "bitterness" on the part of "the left" is "noble"?

(Sorry for all the quotes; it just worked out that way.)

Well, we all have to pay taxes. In fact, my property taxes are almost due and though I can afford it, I'm going to take a hit...but the difference between myself and those on the right, is even though I'm paying taxes for services I don't even use, such as public schools, I'm happy to do it because I know it helps out many of my fellow citizens and it's for the greater good.

To put it in a nutshell, the left cares about their fellow Americans, the right cares about themselves..
its not about "greed" but about not being TAXED TO DEATH

I am working class (ie 55k) and I get stuck with 20% federal tax, 10% state tax, 6% SS (a tax), 9% state and local sales tax, tax on my gas, tax on alcohol, then on top of that property taxes(ie county and then town(school which is the biggest)(and my property taxes SHOW how much is going to social services(ie welfare and medicaide=45%)(not to mention my kids get a LIST of things they have to bring to school that are NOT ACADEMIC (ie tissues and papertowels and handsanitizer..ON TOP OF THE SCHOOL TAX), not to mention fees(ie license FEE, car registration FEE, TOLLS), A MANDITORY cost of car insurance. more than 60% of my income goes to taxes and fees

and thats not counting the REQUIRED things to live...ie housing , FOOD, clothing

sorry but I am TAXED OUT....its not greed, its saying enough is enough

and if President Obama gets his way with a single payer system the COST will be Astronomical.....ie we CURRENTLY spend a little over 600 BILLION on 60 million people for medicare/medicaide....just ADDING the "47 million" that they keep mentioning will cost 500 BILLION A YEAR, and to cover ALL americans will cost between 2- 4 TRILLION a YEAR........just WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM......there were 118 million 1040's filed last year....2 TRILLION divided by the 118 million 1040's (ie WORKING TAXPAYERS) equals about to about 17,000 per TAXPAYER......sorry but I and most that I know CANT AFFORD AN ADDITIONAL 17K in taxes a YEAR

I sit and watch all the name calling and the bitterness and passion you people have for this cause. OK so lay the cards out...what is it that you want and who should pay for it. What will it take for all of you to just shut up, be happy and quit attacking?
You should ask yourself the same question, that is what so many you label as the left have been wondering since before the President was even sworn into office. Your side whines on and on about the evils of President Obama and what is attempting to do but yet I never see any solutions or even suggestions on how to do it all better. That is why the right lost the elections and if your side cannot come up with some real ideas before the next elections you will face the same results. As for name calling and attacking, the mirror is calling you.

Interesting read of posts. All the left wants to do is get rid of the right.
No expansions of social programs ?
No new social programs ?
No new laws ?
No modification of existing laws ?

Seems all you want is a one party system.
