You're being obtuse. I really cannot stand when people are deliberately obtuse. It's a waste of time. You know exactly what the problem is.

I figured that rather than trust any of you clearly partisan windbags I should go look it up for myself.

The bottom line is that neither party really wants to close it that badly but it keeps getting brought up to try to embarass Obama over a failed campaign promise. Naturally Obama's supporters counter by blaming the other party.

Hey, obama promised lots of things...all politicians do.

Guantanamo Bay detention camp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
On 07th January 2011, President Obama signed the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill, which, in part, placed restrictions on the transfer of Guantanamo prisoners to the mainland or to foreign countries, thus impeding the closure of the facility.[17] U.S. Secretary of Defense Gates said during testimony before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on 17th February 2011: "The prospects for closing Guantanamo as best I can tell are very, very low given very broad opposition to doing that here in the Congress

On 20 May 2009, the United States Senate passed an amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2009 (H.R. 2346) by a 90–6 vote to block funds needed for the transfer or release of prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp

In November 2012, the Senate voted 54–41 to prevent detainees being transferred to the United States

Can't say I do. I do not have a problem with Gitmo remaining open. I do not want any of the inmates on American soil.

Others don't agree, and want Gitmo closed. BO is apparently one of those people. He is apparently not able to do this by himself.

Good.

Why in the hell shouldn't we have military prisons for enemy combatants?

Better of the mainland than on.

You are that scared of imprisoned terrorists that you want a special prison for them thousands of miles away in a different country?

I suppose someone could sneak in a file and they could escape from a maximum security prison.

But, but, but it's all Obama's fault that he didn't take action to fulfill his campaign promise when the Dems controlled both chambers.

FIFY. You're welcome.

I have no problem with Gitmo remaining open personally.

Maybe not, but they have alleged for years that they favor less government/less spending while demonstrating their lying hypocritical ways on an almost daily basis.

This is perhaps the largest deflection fail that I've ever seen on this forum. Congrats!
