WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four others will be sent for prosecution in a criminal court in New York from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, an Obama administration official said on Friday.
The five were being prosecuted in U.S. military commissions at Guantanamo, but the Obama administration has pledged to close the controversial prison and to move some of the cases to traditional U.S. criminal courts for trial.

Actually, the deadline is 1/22/2010..and a missed deadline doesn't constitute a lie. Plans are sometimes slowed but one can not be lying if they're doing what they said they would do.

Obama keeps his promise; Moves towards closing Guantanamo
If and when closed within the prescribed time frame, he will be "keeping his promise"
Liberals are so rabidly hungry for an Obama accomplishment, that they have to continue to manufacture them with word play.

So you agree that it would be unwarranted and unethical to claim that Obama had lied or failed to deliver on his promise to close Guantanamo. Yet we have heard this claim made by right-wingers dozens upon dozens of times. What do you think accounts for such persistent unwarranted and unethical behavior by the right-wing?

Kid, have you been hearing any of the New York City people talking about this move that was announced this morning? There are a number of them that won't be voting for Obama next time. Lets see, nearly 3000 multiplied by the number of people who survived them.

You are just wanting to spout left defend The Man crap and not discuss what has just been done. Do you know who any of that 5 are?

How about us discussing the topic of the thread? I thought it had something to do with the removal of the 5 from Gitmo who are being tried as co-conspirators in the 9/11 attack. The newarkid buried it with the more explosive, outside NYC, topic of Gitmo. Yeah, bury anything that is uncomfortable to talk about.

I live here, and am active with the family organizations, and you are wrong.

Are you in NYC?
Are you here listening to people? Real People? Do you live in NY even? NJ? We want justice. Out in the open. We've been waiting for 8 years now. How dare you twist 9/11 to your political gain. There is nothing that disgusts me more.

As I read it, the topic of the thread is Obama keeps his promise; Moves towards closing Guantanamo. As for your five federal defendants, they can put them up in Bernie Madoff's old apartment. If he didn't escape, how would any of these guys ever manage to get away...

So what's the end game plan here? Public trials before moving them into federal prisons. Are we going to put them into isolation or allow them to become a demagogues converting inmates?
