As far as I'm concerned I live in the last best place. You are welcome to california. Unfortunately, many of your fellows are voting.....with their feet. You can't swing a dead cat here without hitting one.
Good... I'm sure most of us won't miss them, and maybe the real estate will finally become more affordable. I've been wanting to buy a place forever, ya know?
If a bikini is so integral to volleyball- why do the six-person team V-ball players not wear them?
How come the male beach players don't play shirtless?
Honestly, I have no idea... totally not my sport of expertise! But AFAIK, bikinis or shorts (for men) are usually what beach volleyball players wear. Maybe the men just played on a colder day? I'm not sure if you noticed, but the women were covered for the earlier matches due to weather.

Four more people to cover your side of the court means much less dashing back and forth.

They both wear two-piece outfits. The women's athletic tops are more supportive than just a tank top would be. It's really not such a bad thing to be somewhat familiar with human anatomy, you know.

Traditional is a subjective term, to say the least. My family has been made up of "liberal" Jews for at least three generations (much farther back for the Jewish part), so my values are traditional to us. Oh wait, you were probably using "traditional" with the conservatives' definition - meaning "correct." I'm not stupid, so I know what you're trying to imply... but I'm also not conceding that one view is better than another. Sorry.
Oh, but I'm not even secular. What part of Jewish sounds secular to you??
I am an unabashed conservative. I'm just right of attilla the hun. I don't "imply" I simply state. You do not have to "read between the lines with me." I see no reason to do otherwise.
It's good you hold on to your religion. Most liberals don't which I believe is a shame. It's not working out for them. Besides, "jewish" is an ethnicity as well as a religion. Just how many of your kinsmen are athiests? Marx certainly was. In point of fact I am as well. I do, however, like people of faith and I believe organized religion can serve as a support system for the common folk.
I believe a strong civil society can be important counter to an overly powerful government. Didn't the catholic church play an important role in the fall of communism in poland? There is a reason marxists, socialists, and communists have always feared and opposed organized religion.
Please don't assume that just because I'm southern and conservative I have some problems with jews or israel. That kind of thinking is absurd. People of the jewish faith have long resided in the south. It's just the way it is. If I were jewish I'd be worried about my liberal bretheren. The hatred of israel among far to many american liberals not to mention the socialists of europe is palpable.
3. Democrats remain less likely to attend church weekly and more likely to seldom or never attend church than the national average. The slight two-point decrease in Democrats who attend church weekly is similar to the one-point decrease in the national adult sample.

It won't help much as your state has increased in population. It's just the numbers of blacks and whites who are leaving. Think of them as "the middle class." Your state is becoming less diverse by the year. Sorry about that.
The latest published data from the 2010 census show how people are moving from place to place within the United States. In general, people are voting with their feet against places where the liberal, welfare-state policies favored by the intelligentsia are most deeply entrenched.
When you break it down by race and ethnicity, it is all too painfully clear what is happening. Both whites and blacks are leaving California, the poster state for the liberal, welfare-state and nanny-state philosophy.
Whites are also fleeing the big northeastern liberal, welfare states like Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as the same kinds of states in the midwest, such as Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
Although California has long been a prime destination of Asian immigrants and the homes of their descendants, the 2010 census shows a striking increase in the Asian American population of Nevada, more so than any other state. Nevada is adjacent to California but has no income tax nor the hostile climate for business that California maintains.
The movement of the black population – especially educated young blacks – is the most striking of all......

Well, at least you're honest about it! But believing you are right doesn't necessarily make it so... I don't think either of our views are right or wrong, they are simply different. I'm not afraid of differences, in fact they make the world more interesting IMO.

I do actually consider myself more culturally than religiously Jewish, and usually refer to myself as an "Agnostic Jew." In the mind of most Orthodox Jews that means I'm secular, but it really means I submit to not knowing everything. I think organized religion can be very dangerous in the hands of some people, while also very positive in other hands.

It does concern me, and that's one of the reasons I don't identify as a Democrat.
However, the Republicans aren't much better, in terms of their treatment of non-Christians/Jews (and a few other groups) - so that's why I've chosen to follow a more independent political path. But enough about us, since this thread is really not about religion OR politics. It's about a boy with gender identity issues, and how his family & school have chosen to address them. And I think they should be free to make these decisions themselves, without having to worry about what other people believe. That's just my opinion, though.

Eh, whatever. I've been in & out of the Bay Area since 1983, and have witnessed many demographic/socioeconomic shifts in that time... some have been for the better, some not, but it's still the place I call home. I love it here despite the COL challenges, and it's still more diverse than many other parts of the country. I've always been in the minority anyway (as a Jew), so it's no skin off my back!
