Terrible, but not surprising. Who in their right mind would drive for Uber or Lyft at that time of night and NOT expect trouble?

I know someone that drives and here is what he says. You have to be very safe and selective. No bad neighborhoods and if you don't feel safe when you get to a pickup, you just cancel and drive off. Sad that is the way it is, but that IS the way it is. Just stay in the better areas and look at who the person requesting a ride is. Better safe than sorry. It is your life we are talking about. Just too dangerous to not be selective.

And was unlikely armed with a taser or pepper spray as guns aren’t allowed.

Yep, per Uber, drivers aren’t allowed to carry a firearm

^^^ good info. i wonder if some drivers feel "as long as nothing happens, they wont know". i respect Uber's policy, not having heard any side of a debate about it, but I would initially question how it could possibly b e in anyone's best interest.

It would be a VERY rare opportunity that a passenger w/mischievous intent got a driver's gun. The gun would be concealed. It would have to be wrestled from the driver. The driver may have already fled the scene, shot the assaulting passenger, or simply played it safe and yielded the car if it were just a carjacking.

but maybe Uber feels good about themselves by this policy, because if one driver is put into the hospital, or underneath soft earth in a box, there will be others.

If I was an Uber driver I’d carry a gun, but they do allow mace and pepper spray.

Carrying probably won't save your life as they are in the back seat pointing a gun at your head. They have no respect for your life and could care less about anyone but themselves. Can you get a shot off through the seat at them? Possibly. If I drove an Uber of Lyft, I think I would carry. I don't think I would ever subject myself to the narcissists out there they just like to kill others as we see daily in the city. They seem to be more and more plentiful in certain areas if you watch local news. I highly recommend watching local news if you plan on voting as it makes you understand the "real world". Fake world voting isn't good for any of us.

That doesn't work in a car. The best thing to do is get them out of the car or run into a tree at 50 mph. Most likely they are not wearing a seat belt if they have a gun.
