Thanks so much for your advice. My children are 9 and 11. They are very active in sports. Also, where is the Selinsgrove library located? Thanks

What about activities for children? Also is there a public pool in Selinsgrove? If we are to visit this area....where would you recommend showing the children first?

The library is currently being rebuilt and is scheduled reopen in its downtown location in mid-July. In the meantime, it's located in an old elementary school building just outside of town. If you have Mapquest or some other map system, the library location when it's finished will be at the corner of West Pine Street and South High Street. Now it is on Route 204, which is an extension of Broad Street.

There is a swimming pool on Linda Lane, which you get to off of Route 522 just up the road from where Broad Street and Route 204 join with Route 522. The pool always opens at noon on the last day of school, which this year is June 5th. You can check it out here: selinsgrove community swimming pool

Are your kids of an age that they like playgrounds? On West Sassafras Street there is a nice big playground area called Kidsgrove. There is a smaller play area with soccer fields called Sir Anthony Selin Park. There are various other small playground scattered around the borough. There's a summer program for kids on weekdays at the Anthony Selin Park.

There's a place at the corner of Market Street and West Pine Street called "The Commons". It's a little outdoor area where there will be a farmer's market on Saturday mornings and free concerts on Thursday evenings, along with free outdoor movies a couple Thursday nights during the summer.

There's a shopping mall and Wal-Mart and lots of other stores and restaurants just north of town on Routes 11 and 15. There are specialty shops and nice restaurants right in Selinsgrove too.

There is a boat launch that is being rebuilt along the river on the Isle of Que. However, the bridge to the Isle of Que will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning on June 4 or 5 so it will be a bit more difficult to get out to the island, but it's a beautiful place to park and walk along the river.

What's up with that?

They're redoing the decking and doing painting and stuff like that. They're keeping the bridge open for bicycles and pedestrian traffic throughout the work, which will take 3 months to finish. It should reopen again the beginning of September.

The detour will be through the emergency access from the Isle of Que onto the beltway. All traffic will have to enter the Isle of Que from the south, and all traffic leaving the Isle of Que will have to go north. If you want to go south from the Isle of Que, you'll have to go to the end and do the turnaround thing at Sheetz and then head back south again.

It'll be an inconvenience, but the other alternatives discussed would have had the bridge closed even longer.

They've already begun some painting work pn the bridge and it may be down to one lane with a stop sign at either end, but traffic (and school buses) can still get through with some patience and planning ahead. The emergency access won't be opened until the bridge is shut down on June 4 or 5.

Has anyone heard or read anything about Beaver Motors buying the old trailer court land across from Lowe's on Lori Lane?

Just saw last evening that there's carnival rides in the Penney's end of the mall parking lot. They appear to be still setting some rides up. Anyone know what it's for? Anything local, or just a traveling carnival? I haven't seen anything in the paper about it.

I see they started the renovations for Super Walmart. The plans seem to suggest a larger parking lot and an expansion on the south end where the garden center and tire lube express was. It also appears as though the store will look similar (layout-wise) to the Super Walmart in Lewisburg with groceries at the left (existing entrance) and hardlines/clothing/housewares at the new right entrance which will be about where the garden center door was. Looks like the parking lot will be all redone as well pushing out toward 11/15 on the south end with new water retention. Not sure how long the project will take but my wife was there a few days ago to pick up a few things and said there was stuff everywhere. Hopefully they get a restructuring in management too since it seems a bit lacking at times.

Other news, TjMaxx really went up fast! I assume at this rate they might be open by September/October, if not at least before Black Friday.

One other thing which is unrelated to this forum but perhaps worth noting. Bloomsburg is getting a new build for an Olive Garden near Buckhorn so looks like Selinsgrove definitely won't be getting one now (even though it probably was never considered as an option). Maybe we can continue to hope for that Panera Bread we've all been talking about :-)

EDIT: Found answer in Bypass thread about what was going on behind the Comfort Inn. A big thank you to all that keep things updated with new information in the Selinsgrove, Monroe Marketplace, and Bypass threads
