Just becasue someone chooses to forgo certain vaccines (or even all of them) does not mean that they got their info from Mercola or sites like the Whale or from "junk science".
If not from "junk science", then from where?
Because the "real science" overwhelmingly favors vaccination.
Kat, do you have a separate waiting room for unvaccinated kids?
I have very good friends who are pediatricians. They also have decided not to see patients whose parents who refuse vaccines. These are also parents who tend to question every medical recommendation. The docs just get tired of trying to educate people who are basically uneducable. They do not want the liability.
And, like the mom in the video, I would be very unhappy if my kid caught a vaccine preventable illness in a medical setting. That includes flu.
No, we don't have separate areas for the unvaccinated. We do have separate areas for sick and well kids, but the parents don't observe those very well, and the front desk can only do so much policing. One day, I called a kid back for possible pertussis (he was in high school and this was before Tdap was widely used) and he/his mom were sitting on the well side, with the newborns! I said, "I thought I'd find you on the sick side", and his mom said, "Well, it's not certain he has pertussis". . !!!!!!!! We do make people coming in for possible flu wear masks, also any kid that is coughing severly. Kids that are being evaluated for possible chickenpox have to stay in the hall, and they get escorted in "the back way". The CDC says you can't catch flu in a waiting room, but some of our kids obviously don't read that.

From looking at the disease and the death rates from the VPD before and after the introduction of the vaccine. Reading up on the individual diseases themselves including treatment. Reading up on the stats regarding vaccine side effects including severity, etc. Comparing information. Reading studies. Looking at vaccine ingredients, how they were tested, etc. etc. etc. Looking at information from both sides of the coin. Weighing the evidence and making the decisions that one feels would be in the best interest of their child.
It's not black and white no matter what one decides as there are risks from vaccinating and there are risks from not vaccinating. There are still a lot of unknowns as everything has not (or ever will be) studied regarding vaccinations. I find it odd when people claim that vaccines are totally and completely safe and I find it equally odd when people claim that vaccines are all very dangerous.

LOL about the flu.
Kids are like magnets. Put 'em in the same room and they stick to one another. I recently took my one year old granddaughter to a play area at a local mall. There were some kids only a few years older than she is who wanted to "help" her climb the slides by picking her up. I had to gently dissuade them since they were not much bigger than she is. Not to mention that she is perfectly able to do her own climbing --- including out of the crib --- already!
Since there are parents who will bring sick kids to the mall, when the respiratory illnesses start, we will not go there for a while.
Repeating anti-vaccine memes does tend to make one look anti-vaccine. Vaccines have been tested. Vaccine ingredients are safe. Vaccines have reduced vaccine preventable diseases by an astonishing number. Most vaccine preventable illnesses are not pleasant or harmless.
The issue is pretty black and white. Unless your ped tells you not to you should vaccinate your infant.

I have never met anyone claim that vaccines are totally and completely safe. But most people I know realize that the real, legitimate side-effects are minimal compared to the real harm caused by the actual diseases.
I've seen people make such claims right here on on CD.
Those two statements are not the same. The ingredients are safe. People can still have reactions to vaccines, but the reactions are very rare.
People can react to a variety of pharmaceuticals, food, scents, pollens, anything that is injected, ingested, or inhaled into the body. It doesn't mean it's poison.

The ingredients may be safe for most people but for those who react to them they are not safe. When someone says "the ingredients are safe" period, end of story, that is misleading.
I'm sure you know, some of the ingredients are known toxins but are thought to be safe in low levels so saying that they are not poisons is also not really true.
