I was wondering do kids today still get chicken pox? I haven't heard of any new cases in a while so I was just wondering. Also, what about other diseases like measles, mumps, etc? Is it still possible for kids to get these (I know there are vaccines but still wondering)?

My dd had chicken pox around the age of 8 I think it was, despite being vaccinated for it. It was very mild though. Her ped actually misdiagnosed it as Molluscom contagiousom(sp?), but the dx didn't sit right with me. I remember telling my husband that if she hadn't been vaccinated, I would SWEAR she had chicken pox! (my oldest had it at age 3; this was before they had the vaccine).

So, I took her to a different doctor he did dx chicken pox. Needless to say, I changed pediatricians.

So yes, they CAN get it.

Without being vaccinated, children can get those illnesses.

Yes to all three with or without the vax although they are all pretty rare these days.

Mine had chicken pox when she was around 7, so that was 13 years ago.

My son got chicken pox from the vaccine!!! I was upset, but the doctor explained it was a live virus vaccination and that happens from time to time....ugh.....

I should add at the time I was a stay at home mom, and there was no way he was exposed any other way. His case was reported to the vaccine injury board by his doctor. I had never even heard of the vaccine injury board before he brought it up.
