The kind of place that doesn't open until 4 pm and stays open til 2 am.

Did you have a run in with a two year old at a bar?

BTW, I heard Wanda Sykes riff on the topic of kids in bars on a talk show once. It was hilarious. I checked YouTube, but there doesn't seem to be a clip of it. You'll have to trust me. She HATES the idea.

If people are that hung up on it, then go to a bar where nobody under legal age is allowed?

People bring children into bars here all the time, although our legal age is 18, if you don't like it then go to a more restrictive establishment. When I go out without my kids, I make sure there are no kids allowed if I want an adult-only night.

That is child abuse to me.
Bars get shot up,and fights happen.
Why allow the kid to potentially become a victim?

i have never, ever been to a bar that allowed kids.
The ones around here barely allowed my 18 yr old brother to come in with me.
If you are not 21 and older the bouncer will not let you in.

they ask for ID.
KIds do not have id.

The OP was too vague. It was clearly done to stir the pot. Most bars I wouldn't take my kids to. Some, though, are fine. So, no, I will not make a blanket statement while clutching my pearls, that toddlers don't belong in bars.
Thar seems kinda silly.

What if the parents are drinking alcohol while kids are playing, they get in the car to go home, and BAM,they have a car accident?

More importantly, what if there are kidnappers and child rapists in the bar?:

What is you are at the park and there are kidnappers and child rapists there?

But seriously, folks, how did this thread get this long?

There are rules about who is allowed in a bar, and bars are allowed to establish more restrictive rules is they want. I don't care so much (especially w/o the smoke now) if a kid is in a bar, but I do find it more unusual when the kids are in a bar with their parents waaaay beyond a good bed time.

OTOH, have a good friend from way back that married a musician, and I would run into her at a gig with a baby asleep on her shoulder. She has two incredible kids now - in fact, I think I will always be jealous of how they have turned out - so I think there is more to the parenting than can be made in an absolute statement about having a kid in a certain place or not.

I agree with you , no baby or toddler should be at a bar period. This shows what type of parent they have if they are.

I guess a lot of you have never been to the UK? Pub culture is very different there.

++++

It's obvious what this OP means... He's not talking about a place where you can sit down and have a meal (a chain or non-chain restaurant) and there happens to be a bar in the same room. I used to go to those kinds of places all the time with my parents. Kids don't belong in an establishment that serves alcohol and little else besides a few soft drinks and salty snacks. I'm thinking a place like Moe's Tavern on "The Simpsons." I don't even think the staff of those bars allow minors to come in at any time, or they shouldn't.
Yes, families often go to the pub together in the UK.

Why would it matter any more than in any other public place? The kids wouldn't be ALONE in the bar.

This is all I'm trying to say. Some of that culture is making its way over here to the US. Some bars are just casual places to hang out and get something to eat and drink. I don't think babies/toddlers in inappropriate bars is a big problem in the US. I've never seen it. like I said, the OP is just trying to start something.
