I have just returned from Europe, think I mentioned I received my offer the day I arrived which was a little hairy. Heading into the city on Friday to pick up the keys and see my apartment - very excited!

I did have a question for those who have gone through the entire process. In looking over the lease documents (which I pretty much just signed asap) I noticed they ask for a W9 to be filled out. Anyone know what the purpose of that is?

Thanks all...and continued fingers crossed for those still waiting!

The W9 is pretty standard with apartment leases. It’s supposed to be for the interest earned on your security deposit overtime. Technically security deposits need to be kept in a separate account and accrue interest.

If you go to the virtual tour they sent you can get measurements there. There is a little ruler icon and you can drag it to measure. Congrats!

Hi all,

Does anyone have recommendations for local moving help? For the one off pick ups and moves of furniture or items from Buy Nothing or Marketplace? I am a single female so wondering how to handle these logistics. Trying to avoid having to buy all new simply for delivery option!

Also, was wondering if we should start a separate thread for those of us who have gotten our offers so as not to be posting potentially irrelevant questions to this lottery board? Wanting to be considerate to those still waiting!

Thank you!

Rose

It's a very nice kitchen and bathroom reno, the living space is smaller than our current place but we're gaining a 2nd bedroom so it's a tradeoff there. Time to get packing!
Hey can you share your timeline and rent amount if you don’t mind. Thank you

I first submitted my documents in March, got a request to send additional documents in April (quarterly statements that weren't available in March when they first asked for them), got placed on my specialist's waitlist for a 2 bd in May, was asked to resubmit most of the documents again in July since they were aging out past the 120 days, got approval from the supervisor sometime in August and then heard from the leasing office in October. My rent is the max $2600 plus the A/C fees.

Whenever they asked for any documents I sent them within 24-48 hours max (usually that same evening when I got home from work).

Thanks, I've been trying that but my Matterhorn is not my exact apartment and the kitchen is flipped. I'm not 100% sure it will be all the same but I'm using it as a guideline at least.

That sounds like a great idea!

Hopefully we'll be able to find a handyman/local mover person on the Stuy Town resident FB group.

Hi Rose, I’ve been living in Stuytown for a few years and I’ve always found that people will help you here when you ask on the BN group, you can post an ask for help moving heavy pieces of furniture and borrow neighbor’s dollies and such.

I was super self conscious during the move that neighbors might complain about the noise, but luckily we didn’t get any complaints. The loudest thing is the elevator beep that warns you not to hold the elevator for longer than like 10 seconds lol. Mortified whenever I heard that. But it only went off two or three times and we got through it!

People might have questions about the heating. I found that my heat kicked in overnight which is always a huge relief in October. I recommend going to the Resident Services office to get a free thermometer, that way if you’re cold you can verify whether your apartment truly is below 70 degrees before calling maintenance. The heat should start automatically if the air temp drops below 70 (provided outdoor temp is below 55).
congrats again, Can you please share details about your location and rent?
