Two weeks before I moved here my building was destabilized and tenants were evacuated and given emergency housing through the Red Cross. It's been a crazy time, but how lucky I was to have this new place already lined up! So I moved in on Thurs. with no furniture. I'm calling it my non-move I'm living like a monk with what Family and friends have scrounged up: a card table, folding chairs, an air mattress, and some lamps. All of this is to say, I'd love to join the Buy Nothing group. Where can I find it? Also, someone mentioned a Stuytown resident forum, I think. I'd like to find that as well. Thx!

finally, I thought I would have been given some info about the apartment--info about heat, changing kitchen/bathroom lights. My brain is a bit broken from everything that's happened so maybe there's some welcome info I missed.

Anyway, feeling so grateful to be here. And congrats to all who have gotten recent offers.

Wow! I think you live in my friends building. (Well... lived before the wall collapsed! 14th street right?) so glad this apt was lined up for you!! Hopefully they let you into the buy nothing group fast! Good luck! It's been a crazy two weeks! I've been helping out my friend... really stressful situation. Good luck!

Yes, 14th Street! Crazy, indeed. I'm sure your friend appreciates you. I've been so grateful to family and friends. It's been hard to think straight. Thanks for the good wishes.

I finished my move Sunday and I am so happy. My apartment is great. I am at PCV on 20th and First Ave (2bed/2bath) on the 13th floor. The apartment looks exactly like the link Susan sent me. I had very tiny issues like the doorbell not working because was painted over, the internet cable not working and the paint job in some places is a little sloppy. But maintenance came and fixed the doorbell and today they're working on the cable situation. It was hard to get hold of maintenance on the phone Monday morning, so I just walked to the Welcome Center. The grounds are so pretty and decorated for fall and Halloween. My neighbors are elderly and super quiet. Everyone in the building is super friendly. And my added bonus is a Freedom Tower view from my living room and an Empire State view from my bedroom window. My commute is heaven now. No more drama with the Queens Blvd. corridor. Now instead of a 45min commute, I have a 25 min commute.
I feel SO BLESSED. Again I will be eternally thankful for this forum for the messages exchanges and the friendships.

THIS IS SO GREAT TO HEAR! I am so happy for you! You have been so helpful to everyone.

I too moved in last week, (1 bdrm log 1672) upper floor on 20th & C in PCV. Also feeling so very blessed to be here, literally a life long dream come true. I am still pinching myself! Amazing view of downtown & freedom tower from all of my windows, and view of east river from living room. and I cannot fully express how AMAZING everyone has been. This is truly a community! I practically furnished my apartment from the Buy Nothing page! I have everything I need to function and settle in as I make the place my own. And people are happy to help!

A few things that may be helpful to others who may get an offer and be moving in. I had arranged to pick up the keys from public safety after hours (5:30)..but they didn't have my keys. They directed me to resident services, but they didn't have my keys. They directed me to the Welcome Center, where I was told that they had not yet brought the keys to public safety. So spare yourself, go to Welcome Center on First Ave just north of 14th street. Also, it appears the "smart pick up" of keys is actually not yet available as an option.

I cannot wait for our meet up to put names to faces. I have gone ahead and started a new thread for those who have moved in...and hope I can invite other to it? Its called STPCV LOTTERY RECIPIENTS. Hope it is useful!

Continued best wishes to those still waiting...there's still time!

Yeah! Congratulations! I too know this is my forever home!

Oh, so glad you landed here too! As Mac said, its a FB group and you will definitely find things...I practically furnished my apartment through it, as circumstances post Covid were such that I am not "moving" my things. Also, there is a welcome packet emailed. Unfortunately, it will not let me upload it here, but contact welcome@stuytown.com.

Also, for newbies..ignore emails from "updater". The app "moved" is the one to use. And I haven't engaged much with URBN playground, as anyone else?

Congrats again!

Default Break lease

Hi!

Does anyone know if stuytown will let you break a lease if you get one of their lottery apts? My lease is up at the end of this month and I’m thinking of renting one of their market rate apts while I wait for an offer for a two bedroom. I think I might be close with a lottery log #33xx but it’s so hard to know what to do!

When was the last time you spoke with the team in the lottery office? You should be very close to an offer. If you let them know your lease is up at the end of the month that may give an extra push forward. I'm also log #33xx and got an offer this month and moving in this weekend (my lease started last weekend but I wasn't packed up and ready to go). It was slow, slow, slow and then all of a sudden it was a big push to get the paperwork signed and lease started. I only had two weeks from the time they made the offer to start the lease, otherwise they said I'd have to get my documents approved again.

You should be very close!

I do think they allow you to break a lease if you receive a lottery offer but I'd confirm with them.
