Just watched Daybreakers, on Netflix streaming no less (finally found something I wanted to watch).
I thought I remembered mixed reviews when this came out but checked RT and it was pretty tomatoey so I qued it up.
I think it was pretty good. Presents a lot of political, ethical, moral things to think about if you want to, without beating you up with them.

Not exactly True Blood/comedic entertainment

Daybreakers is a 2009 science-fiction horror film written and directed by Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig. The film takes place in 2019, where a plague has turned most of the planet's human population into vampires. A vampiric corporation sets out to capture and farm the remaining humans while researching a blood substitute. Lead vampire hematologist Edward Dalton's (Ethan Hawke) work is interrupted by human survivors led by former vampire "Elvis" (Willem Dafoe), who has a cure that can save the human species.

I'm on a roll with my third Netflix streaming movie - Gosford Park. I had seen this around before and even though I like movies set in England etc. I kept passing. I have had to look pretty hard to find things to watch on streaming though so I re read the synopsis and decided to give it a whirl.

Better than I expected, probably a little slow for some. A more interesting and real protrayal of the servants of the English aristrocracy and the aristocrats themselves than most. The small Hollywood thread added an interesting bit as well.

Reading the below previously I got the impression that is was some sort of Agatha Christie who dun it but that is barely part of it. It's really about the staff interactions, the guest interactions, and getting glimpses (only glimpses) of their back stories.

Gosford Park is a 2001 mystery comedy-drama film directed by Robert Altman and written by Julian Fellowes. The film stars an ensemble cast, which includes Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith, Eileen Atkins, Alan Bates and Michael Gambon. The story follows a party of wealthy Britons and an American and their servants, who gather for a shooting weekend at the English country house, Gosford Park. A murder occurs after a dinner party and the film goes on to present the subsequent investigation into it from both the servants' and the guests' perspectives.

Wow, that looks like a pretty interesting film. Wonder if it'll be showing at my favorite indie movie theater soon.

Contagion - it was alright the film is very well made and the acting is very good, but I felt it was too cold, with so many characters there wasn't enough room for character development and thus it was hard to care about most of them.

Rating - 6.5/10

Is anyone else watching the Merchant and Ivory films on Thursday nights on TCM ? I watched The Bostonians, Quartet, Roseland and started watching Savages but, fell asleep, maybe fortunately......I do like their films, at least a good many of them. They always seem like a beautiful painting to me.....wonderfully executed.....
