I love Jane Austen. I watch Emma (the miramax film), Emma (the BBC version, which I like even better than the miramax film), Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility (with the wonderful Kate Winslet) probably once a month.

The most recent film I watched, though, was Ondine. It's a really beautiful and strange sort of film. It's set in Ireland and there's some Irish mythology woven into the story, as well as some great music by the Icelandic band Sigur Ros. In the past I've never really cared for Colin Farrell's work but having seen him in this film I can honestly say I've a greater appreciation for him as an actor now.

The Hunter -- Steve McQueen's last film.

Not a particularly good film...

"Conviction" a true-story drama depicting an extraordinary love between two siblings. Swank plays the sister whose love propelled her to sacrifice her own life for the sake of a brother (Sam Rockwell) who she believed was wrongfully accused of murder.
Juliette Lewis' acting in this movie, although a small part...deserves a mention. It show-cased her talent as a versatile actress to be reckoned with.

We seem to have the same taste in movies.
I'll check "Ondine" out...fantasy genre is one of our favorites for weekend family movie entertainment.

Saw Ondine back in July, have my favorite parts of the movie that I mentioned when I posted about it.

I am in the minority here but one of the best movies I have seen was No Country for Old Men. I have gone back and watched it twice more, though it is only at its best on the big screen. I loved the opening scene and I thought the casting was spot on with Josh Brolin, Kelly MacDonald and Javier Bardem (one of the all time great cinematic evil men). The only misstep was Woody Harrellson but mainly that his part didn't seem right in the movie. I had read the book some time before seeing the movie. It had been throwing around in the back seat of my car for months...headed for the Sal.Army....anyway, I had found it rather hard to read but intriguing and I did like it. One of the few times I think I enjoyed the movie more than the book.

I found with this movie, you either loved it or hated it.

No Country for Old Men was without a doubt one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time. Great movie, really loved it!
