Interesting analysis on what SOLO under-performed at the box office. Lots of small reasons, but the biggest (in this guy's analysis) was a total marketing failure. The whole thing is here:
As a side note, it's also clear that Disney is having some issues in production with the Star
Wars films - of the four to date, only Last Jedi had a relatively untroubled production
process (based on press reports). We're not sure why this has been the case, particularly
compared to Marvel which appears to be an incredibly well-oiled machine. We do have one
suggestion, not that anyone's asking: promote Dave Filoni to a higher level of importance at
Lucasfilm. Filoni has been responsible for two animated series, Clone Wars and Rebels, and
is executive producer on a third series, Resistance, coming out this fall. Filoni has created
about 10x more hours of Star Wars video content than all the movies combined, and in my
opinion (as an admittedly huge franchise fan) he 'gets' Star Wars as well as anybody.
Hey, Ralph... You're going to have to do little bit better than that for people like me who have zero knowledge of the animated series and such. Although, I do think that I read somewhere that Maul didn't really die when Kenobi cut him in half on Naboo, and that is why he is in the animated series, but you might need to elaborate on that.
A light saber cauterizes the wounds it causes. And, apparently, Maul's species doesn't have vital organs below the waist. So, as explained in Clone Wars, Maul actually survived and lead a desperate life for several years crawling with his hand, living on vermin and hatred. Although nearly insane and amnesiatic, he had been dumped on a junk planet where he built spider-like mechanical legs for himself.
He has quite an additional story after being found by his brother and going on to be a challenge to Anakim and Ashoka Tanen, then Ezra Bridges, before finally learning that Obi Wan still lived on Tatooine (watching over another youngster powerful in the Force). Obi Wan finally kills him on Tatooine before he can get to Luke Skywalker.

Also, could you explain who or what Qi'ra is?
Han's love interest. The "Forces of Destiny" short that was released right after the debut of "Solo" takes place after the events of "Solo," when she is working directly for Darth Maul. It also ties in directly with characters from Clone Wars, Rebels, and A New Hope.
What they did with Solo makes good sense with what they're doing on television. TLJ, however, was 'way out of sync with everything.
This writer thinks Solo should have been two movies, but for his reasons I think Solo should have been on the Disney streaming service, maybe as a six-part story.
Now that I think of it, maybe "Star Wars Stories" should be a streaming anthology series of one-season arcs exploring different characters.
Thanks. I never would have known unless I looked up information about the movie because I was thinking that her name was spelled like the character from DS9.

Personally, I thought that the movie marketing and the awareness of this movie was everywhere, therefore, I have to respectfully disagree with you and the article. Plus, I even thought that the logo for the movie was kind of tacky looking because it reminded me of a famous chocolate candy:
Also, I've heard criticisms of about the movie's logo not being that great.
I agree, although, I liked the story of the movie better than you did. Also, I think that Occam's razor comes into play because I think that the impression that the lead actor had and the impression that the actor who played Lando Calrissian had on the audience, more than likely is what had pulled the rug out from under this movie... And whether it was a conscious impression or an unconscious impression. But that's just my 2 cents worth on the matter.

Sorry about taking so long to get back with you on this. Also, personally... I found the 'he's still alive' thing to be a bit deus ex machina. Also, why couldn't they have just made it his brother who had a striking resemblance to Maul and who wanted revenge upon the person who killed his brother, and who is also skilled in the Jedi arts? Plus, no vital organs below the waist? So apparently, his species' lower intestines are somewhere else on their body? Hmmm.
