OK saw the movie last night. A few thoughts:
First of all, I knew before hand it would not live up to the glory of its predecessor; the Dark Knight. That movie was elevated to another level by one of the great performances I've seen in a long time from the late Heath Ledger. I dont know if Heath himself would have been able to replicate that performance again if he was still alive, so I was prepared for a less stratospheric, more earthy performance, and with Nolan behind the camera I expected it to still be a top notch, first rate movie.
So what happened? several things. First of all the villain...I know Bane is in the comic book as a villain but he rubbed me the wrong way. With his mask on all I kept thinking about was all those masked wrestlers I used to watch back in the day; Kane et al. I think the fight scene with Batman before he ends up in the pit really drove home the wrestler impression. Just wasnt charismatic/inspiring enough for me at all. While I didnt think he would be as good as the Joker, this guy wasnt even on the same planet. Maybe due to following the comic book the choice of villain was out of the director's hands. But it was a weakness.
Second, catwoman. God bless Hathaway, but she was the WORST actress to use for catwoman. Hathaway just seemed forced and unnatural as catwoman. In my person opinion there is only one woman with the swag to play that role; Angelina Jolie. But maybe that's just a personal thing and others thought she was great. I found her annoying and wished she would die off quickly.
Third, the castration of Michael Caine. They had Caine blubbering and sobbing so much I was waiting for him to finally step out in some stillettos and a Vera Wang piece. Good God. did they have reduce him to a tearful mess? Seems like he is crying the entire movie. Maybe one heart wrenching scene but not the whole damned movie!
Not sure why Morgan Freeman was even in the movie. They reduced him to almost nothing. TDR was great because of so many great performances from different people. Thus you could ignore Bale to some degree even though he was mediocre in the dark knight. In this sequel all the great actors/actresses have been stripped away, leaving Bale to carry the movie by himself, something he cannot do, and it showed. Really disappointed in Nolan from whom I expected better. C-

1. bane predates any WWE wrestler. so there was no wrestling "impression"
2. batman's back being injured/broken is accurate to the comics, so unless you wanted bane to break his back with a bat, the scene was right on
3. Joker wasn't charismatic or inspiring. neither was bane, because neither of them are heros. joker was frightening, as is expected from villains.
4. since when is following the comics a bad thing... smh

It seems biafra4life watched a different film from the one watched yesterday, or was not paying attention. And to say that Christian Bale can't carry a film is laughable!

1. Its exactly because its following the comic book that the movie feels more real.
2. Times have changed, my friend. Jolie isn't the only action packed girl around; and i personally think that Hathaway has done an amazing job at portraying Catwoman.
3. He wasn't tearful all the time. You are exaggerating it.
4. Freeman's role has always been insignificant, be it in this instalment or the previous ones.
Hope it's a good movie because Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the only good Batman movies I've ever seen. Saw Batman and Robin (With Arnold Scwarzenegger and George Clooney) and have no interest in seeing the older ones after how bad it was.

He's talking about that Godawful Mr. Freeze role.....
And it's one thing to have an opinion. It's another to just get things completely wrong and exaggerate.
