Wow pretty faithful to the Frank Miller vision. Batman was always meant to be animated, and The Dark Knight Returns is even better than the latest live action film or the first one. Can't wait for part 2 this winter. When you think of the the Gritty ass kicking Batman, you're thinking about the Frank Miller version. Batman owns criminals in this film with no mercy.
Even though I liked Miller's Dark Knight Returns, I've always thought his Batman: Year One was a far superior work, both in terms of art and story. TDKR sometimes felt a little too Mad Max for me. Haven't seen the DVD yet.
It looks faithful to the book, but Peter Weller is terrible as Batman in the trailers I have seen. I also liked Year One better. The animated movie of Year One was very good, I thought.
Just watched it the other night, and I was pretty pleased with the outcome. Fairly true to the Frank Miller version, to the point where I was pulling out the book and pointing this or that out to my husband while we watched it (I've read it, he hasn't).
I actually loved this Batman movie. It is as close to The Dark Knight Returns as we will get. Sure, Batman V. Superman was similar, but I don't think we will ever see The Dark Knight Returns on film.
