Not deer flies. Deer flies are lighter colored and the wings are shaped like the wings on an F-14. Yes, they bite, nasty. These were regular black house flies.

Huh. The ones I'm thinking of (that we always called deerflies) have a flattened abdomen, so seen from the side they almost look squished. And they are black, and smaller than a regular housefly (tho we've got hordes of puny houseflies here lately, wtf). The wings are more swept back than a housefly. But they do come in great clouds, and they bite like crazy. I think the only place I've seen 'em in ones and twos rather than clouds is up by Glacier.

We've had a ton of house flies this past few days. I just noticed it last night. My garage is full of them, they're getting in the house, they swarm you outside.

I found one dead carcass in my yard (gopher), but that generally doesn't lead to this sort of thing. Weird.

Almost like a Hitchcock movie, lol.

This was interesting. Poor sky diver won't do this again.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!

I think we need a flyswatter that size....

Another dreary day in paradise. Raining out and chilly. Was yesterday too. Feels more like late September. Clouds are hanging low on the mountains. Supposed to be this way clear into next week. Elk, rifle season starts in just 10 days.

Last week they got hail at the Burning Man site, and enough rain to pretty well flood the place. Are we in Bangladesh? I forget.

What a beautiful day!!!

The heat is off, the dust and smoke out of the air, I could smell the pines when I came into work, it was 53 degrees at my house this morning and it felt like HUNTING SEASON!!!!

I am so ready for that blast furnace heat to be over. The last couple months were so miserable, I didn't feel like doing anything but lying in the shade and pant.

I'm seeing deer in the fields in velvet, Bear season starts soon, I'm starting to see upland birds in the berry patches,

What a GLORIOUS time of Year!!

Ha, back in 1976 I had to go to Billings overnight, and the low for the night was 103 degrees. And I'm like... does it do this often?? no wonder the rocks are all melted!

Hello! Good Morning! Anybody home? It's 50 degrees out and sunny here but I don't want to sit on my porch because there are big black ants all over. Hoping I could come sit over here.
