Sounds like my town is leaning towards having kids wear masks until Oct 1 to ensure a smooth transition back into the classroom.
in my town, they might be enforcing it because my town has a widespread mask mandate in all indoor buildings. there are several towns now that have mask mandates everywhere inside and Boston will be one of them by August 27th.

If you look at current trends, MA is trending about ~8-10 deaths per day while TN is around 50/day.

It has nothing to do with vaccination. The high schoolers in my town are 95% fully vaxed now and will be 98% vaxxed when school starts but they still have to wear masks. Masking is forever.

not if people do not comply or get mad enough. Parents are getting very mad with the mask mandates in school. i don't know about Massachusetts but in other states, they are furious kids have to wear masks. the problem is teacher unions are forcing it.

I think that the higher vaccination rate in MA is primarily responsible for the current difference not any management by the state.

Please don't tell me you're including March - May 2020 in this death rate statistic? Totally unrepresentative. MA was one of the first to be hit, and the virus was circulating long before any public health measures were in place. Look at June 2020 onwards, and I bet TN will look a *lot* worse.

Over the past two weeks MA has had 16,240 cases. Using the historical MA CFR this should have led to 298 deaths.

However, there were only 60 deaths.

The largest reduction was in the over 80's, where there were 305 cases which would have historically meant 145 deaths but instead there were only 27.

This data proves vaccines work.

I said March - May. Not March 2020 by itself. It's a sore point for me because people point to the death statistics in MA and NY as "proof" that tough measures like mask mandates don't work. The point is almost all of the current deaths in TN are avoidable. We had no vaccines available when most of the MA deaths were occurring.
