I'm sick of being called a "nervous nelly" for doing the bare minimum in a pandemic.
Exactly. My (younger) brother is one of those long haulers. At this point it looks like he is permanently disabled from covid. He was telling me yesterday that some days his shoes are too heavy for his feet, that's how fatigued he is. He is starting a post-covid clinical study today at his hospital where he will be evaluated and monitored by an army of doctors. He caught the virus in April.

I do not want to end up like him or worse, so I am doing everything I can to keep myself healthy and away from people who may not be as careful. Call me a nervous nellie if you want, I don't really care.

It would be interesting to see if a lawsuit brought by the parents of the students who now need to go remote would gain any traction. I could see some families now having to make significant changes to their lives to accommodate, as a direct result of the actions (or inactions) of the parents who allowed this party to happen.

I didn't quite say that. I am saying that if people are going to be doing things like going out to eat, having parties it's BS that kids can't go to school the way they should and play sports.

Sorry to hear about your brother. I know at least 4 Covid survivors...all in their 50s...and it's not been a picnic for them, although 3 have recovered nearly completely.

I find it repulsive when some people pretend to care about their kids' education when the reality is that they just want to use schools for daycare.

I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. I have my fingers crossed for him and everyone else suffering long-term effects that things will eventually work out. I'm no scientist or doctor or president who knows more than both, but I don't think we really know yet. I wish him the best.

I understand your frustration. Our kids are still full remote in public school while my wife reports for duty every day at a private school. It doesn't seem right, but one is a business and one only operates when its teachers' union agrees with the conditions, and the threat of COVID is not an agreeable condition for most unions.

When it comes to other behavioral choices right now, I won't succumb to envying those acting irresponsibly. We'll ride this out responsibly and make up for it later.

I find it repulsive when people make comments like this. Are you kidding me? School has been in session for centuries, it's part of a childs upbringing. We handled the no school situation last March, April, May, and June. Now we're doing it again. You really think people have kids over the age of 5 are looking for babysitters? I'm not a teacher, I want a professional educator to teach my kids.

I love how everyone here knows a bunch of people who've had Covid or died of it. I guess I'm lucky enough to have no one close with me to have it.

You're making a faulty assumption. The educational disparity between private and public schools right now is massive.

You had me until you tried to delegitimize the threat or consequences of contracting COVID. I suspect at least one person in your town has died from COVID. Whether you knew them or not, someone sure did. These people dying had families. Don't undercut your point with callousness.

It's hard to tell if you're being sarcastic (i.e. doubting those of us who do know Covid victims) or genuine. If the latter, yes...please do consider yourself fortunate.
