Well let’s see how horrified you are in 6 months when we’re doing what we’re doing now.

Yep, the rise in percentage can be partly traced to blatantly foolish party-going and reckless out of state travel without taking necessary safeguards. There are still people who think this will not happen to them. A similar incident happened in New Brunswick, Canada a month ago when a medical professional visited a high risk area in another province, suspiciously took the virus back with him, and infected others with it.

I think by then we will have a much better idea on where we are with a vaccine.

I'm skeptical about, no downright against, herd immunity at this point. It's ridiculous that we won't make a 6-8 week sacrifice by closing down again (nationwide mandates, this time), get R values to <1 everywhere, and then safely reopen. Instead, you're willing to sacrifice additional thousands with herd immunity? Ask Sweden how well that worked out for them...their death rate is > the US.

On a positive note, Moderna has started dosing patients in its Phase 3 study. They also announced an additional $0.5B in gov./BARDA funding.

How far it advances has yet to be seen. Maybe it's just a small blip?

It's amazing that a company that doesn't have a single marketed product, and has created this vaccine based on new, cutting edge tech, is on the forefront of the vaccine race.

With that said, I do admit I am investing in them, but have been considering bailing in light of their comments regarding selling the vaccine at no profit. I support that.

6 months from now, a half dozen vaccine candidates will have completed clinical trials. It’s a matter of picking the safest and most effective. There is insufficient data to guess which might be best. There are so many parallel projects worldwide that I think it’s unlikely that there won’t be a vaccine then. Circling back to the trust in government issue, I don’t trust a politicized Trump FDA. I’ll probably get mine in Canada if they have a better option.

I don’t feel confident that there will be a vaccine in 6 months.
