Thanks for lending a reality check. As I recall, Sweden was one of the countries that decided to go for herd immunity the hard way. Not surprised that it had such deadly results.

They really need to tie it to recipients of Federal programs, too. Medicaid. Section 8. Food stamps. If you want a handout, you need to be a good citizen and get vaccinated. That would really help with the low vaccination rate failed cities in Massachusetts.

I just found out a relative of mine is not vaccinated and will be in attendance of a wedding that I plan to attend in about 2 weeks. I'm more than a little bit upset. Other people I know are vaccinated but they aren't checking for vaccinations and they are testing either. Is anybody else been in a similar situation

Unfortunately these are things I think we'll have to accept or just not go to events for fear of being around unvaccinated people. We told my unvaccinated mother in law not to come out to visit. She was supposed to be here this week. It was more for her safety since she's 75 and has diabetes/asthma/overweight...but she could get something on the plane and give it to us.

Most people never worried about who had a flu shot and who didnt.

Deaths per million:

USA 2,016
UK 1,959
Spain 1,822
France 1,763
Sweden 1,441

Lets add in MA

MA 2,657
USA 2,016
UK 1,959
Spain 1,822
France 1,763
Sweden 1,441

In fact 37 US states and DC have a higher deaths per million then Sweden.

United Airlines just swung a big stick as well: all employees who have been granted or requesting a religious or medical exemption will be put on a temporary, UNPAID leave starting October 2 while they develop a way to ensure the safety of non-vaxed employees. Non customer facing will be tested weekly and have to mask up indoors and outdoors. Customer facing employees have been told "Once the pandemic meaningfully recedes, you will be welcomed back to the team on active status."

Employees have until September 27 to upload their vax cards.

Yes. I had RSVP'd "Yes" for a family wedding in Iowa over Labor Day weekend, back in June. When Delta exploded, I checked to see if the hosts were going to insist on vaccination for the guests. When the answer came back that they were going to "encourage" it, I decided to pull back my RSVP. It was a tough call, but I don't regret it.

We all know how the US bungled the response overall. And yes, you keep citing Massachusetts' death rate even though most of those deaths took place early in the pandemic (same for NY, NJ). How about subdividing into March - May 2020, and June 2020 - present? For a bit more of a fair comparison?

How can you really mandate everyone be vaccinated for a wedding ? Have them send in their vaccine card ? I don't see this being sustainable in the long run.
