This is going to be a construction nightmare! I can't even begin to imagine how they're gonna add all those lanes and keep traffic moving in an already horrid bottleneck.
You have a bit to think about it. The plans are done, but there is no funding yet. Summer of 2017 is the earliest possible date, but that is 10+ years after the original planned start date. Who knows, it might be another 10 years....
Will someone please explain why there's a Harriet Tubman Museum in Macon? She had no connection to the city that I know of.
Because it is a majority black city and too many of our old black leaders are stuck in the 60s and still think race is the number one characteristic when it comes to voting and such and they demanded we have a civil rights museum here. They tried to raise money to finish it for 10 years and couldn't. ...so the same idiots held the last SPLOST hostage to get the money. Basically they were ready to defeat all of the good in the SPLOST unless they got the money to finish the Tubman boondoggle. They won that battle but I am still bitter. The tactics used to finish it are the same ones holding this city back. For that reason, the tubman museum symbolizes all that is dysfunctional in Macon. I will not support it or attend events there....EVER. I hope it is an epic fail.
Love love love it. This is the type of thing that is relatively cheap yet positively impacts the quality of life of a city. I love the riverwalk and jog there and walk my dogs there regularly. This is a major positive. Connecting it to the trails at the Ocmulgee Monument makes miles and miles of uninterrupted nature and peace in the middle of the city.
I agree with you Midgeorgiaman, the riverwalk extension will be a nice boost for the quality of life. BTW has there been any news on the proposal study for a new ballpark downtown.
