I will be in Macon for a few week's and have yet to be in downtown Macon. From the few people I have talked to, they say there are a few bars in the downtown area that are within walking distance of eachother, which would be a huge advantage because I won't have a car(I'll be staying in North Macon, and hopefully taking a cab/taxi downtown). If anyone has any suggestions of what bar's would be the one's to visit, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

FYI, I am a 24 year old white male from Chicago, if that makes any difference if your options.

Well, I am in my 30s so I don't barhop much anymore, but here is the rundown.

Hummingbird Stage and Taproom -- best live music in town. A must do.
Bottom's Up -- under 25 primarily, usually a DJ (lots of college kids so if you come after school is out in early May, who knows?)
Club Envy -- Dance Club, mainly under 30
BJ's Billiards -- pool hall with a poker table if you are into that (good place to kill time until the bars pick up after 10 or 11pm)
Element -- new bar, 3 room club, chill,, dance, etc. Haven't been there since I personally think their owners are incompetent fools, but many folks like the place.
Rookery -- more of a restaurant/pub, but sometimes they have live music

There are some others, but they aren't coming to my mind right now. All of the above places are within 2 blocks of each other so they might fit your scene. Good Luck.

The 11h Hour alternative newspaper always has the lowdown on local happenings and the bar scene. Check them out online.

I second the Hummingbird. God choice of draft beer as well. Live bands. the Rookery is across the street. Luigi's for dinner is just down the block. Tic-Tac room is across the street as well.

The choices of nightlife around here resemble sort of a small list of what kind of enema you would prefer.

Well then.. the above two posts were a bit unnecessary.

Anyway... sounds like Macon has more going on downtown than I thought.

Well - I reckon if you're from somewhere like Bolingbroke, it might be okay. I reckon there are maybe 2-3 places down there maybe worth dropping into for a beer.

Macon's downtown has actually surprised me in the last few years. Plenty of stuff to do for adults, and with the addition of the mall to the North there are more & more upscale restaurants going in, near to I-75 where we can pull in some visitors.

Personally, I'd drive the extra 80 miles to Atlanta. A LOT more to do there.
