I just noticed lower Delaware was in the red on the radar and wondering what the conditions were, my inlaws didn't leave and they are right on the Indian River Bay, I've tried calling with no luck. Be careful.

Father in law finally called me, tornado warning for the shore up to Dover he said.

beachliz and James 420, Thanks so much for the updates.

beachliz, Cypress trees? Wow! I hope they hold for many reasons.....your safety first.....and they are probably some of the most northern around these parts. It looks like the northern edge of Irene is near the motel room we are holded up in....comin' across the ditch.

James420, Glad you heard from your fil. Hope all is well for them through the rest of this 'event'.

May I suggest....go to weather threads and read posts there....many comments and recommendations.
***This is very serious and potentially devastating***

....make sure you have your hurricane survival kit ready-there is a thread for that too under weather/hurricanes.

YES....flooding, power outages, heavy rains, storm surges....GET GAS IN ALL VEHICLES, CASH AND FLASHLIGHT/BATTERIES....A NOAA BATTERY-POWERED RADIO....

AND LEAVE IF THEY TELL YOU TO DO SO.

Good luck

We're in Middletown (well, Odessa). Are power outages likely during hurricanes? Of course I'll be stocking up on toilet paper, milk, and bread.

This one brings back memories of Hurricane Hazel, here in Delaware 1954. While we didn't get much rain, the winds were extremely strong, and the National Guard Armory in Dover was destroyed. As a dumb teenager, I was trying to carry plyboard in the wind, from the garage to the front of our store so I could help board up the large windows. I still have a scar on my leg to prove it.

I remember it well, and that the hotels, restaurants, and homes along the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, and a block back, were full of sand and debris 5' deep on their first floors.

Tornado warning for Rehoboth and Lewes until 12:45pm, that means seek shelter, If you're in that area.
