Governor Markell Expands Mandatory Evacuation Order to Include Residents in Areas Most at Risk

Governor Markell Expands Mandatory Evacuation Order

I wish I had access to ANYWHERE near as much information for New York as I have for Delaware. Shameful performance by "the Empire State".

Hiya Rockky!!

Just moved to Middletown a week ago. I can't believe this. First an earthquake, and now this.

Is anyone from Middletown evacuating? And if so, where are you going?

I took the kids and left this morning. Logically, I think things will be ok but I have some severe PTSD from being in a flash flood in Richmond during Gaston. We got 14 inches of rain in 8 hours and it took me 3.5 hours to drive what was usually a 30 minutes, tops, drive. I had some coworkers who took 10 hours to get home, and a few people died. Every road I drove on had inches of running water, and many roads closed. I95 closed -- the flooding moved the jersey walls and brought in tons of sand. The next day it looked like a sandbox, with cars sprinkled around. Another coworker's house and car dropped into a sinkhole.

So, anyway, that memory is too fresh. I am not concerned about the wind and rain, but the idea of flooding makes my stomach hurt. I barely slept last night, and woke up and made the decision to leave. I will be more of a hindrance to my husband if he has to try to keep me calm all weekend.

Default Delmarva Power

We got a nice automated call from Delmarva Power, saying to prepare, and expect widespread power outages. They said they have prepared, but heavy winds may down power lines, and rest assured, they will be working non-stop to restore any outages.

Also noted as per DEMA, those in manufactured homes should go to evacuation centers. In Kent County, it's Lake Forest High School on Killen's Pond Road, and Smyrna Middle School (I believe). But check the site to make sure, because news is being updated, and some information is changing.

A friend of mine owns a rental property in OBX. They were there on vacation this week, and went home early today to Ohio. She said on the drive home, they've passed countless tree service vehicles and power company trucks heading west and south. Looks like there'll be back up staged and ready to go. Hopefully they're throwing a few to poor little Delaware's way.

Our neighborhood is now under the mandatory evacuation. Hoping my husband can get everything ready and get out in time.

Steno, welcome to DE! As far as I know, nobody in Middletown is evacuating. Far enough from the tidal surge. Just wind will be your major worries. Hopefully your neighbors brought in everything that can fly.
If you loose power and are on city water, no worries there either.
This stuff doesn't happen too often. You get through this week , you'll love it!
Middletown High is a shelter. They have a genny on site if you feel you must leave. Although it is mainly for the southern folk, you are still welcome. Red Cross moved in today.
Chris

Ooooowww! (We already had plans to fly to Lake Champlaine early Sat. morning, where sadly there will now be rain but no real worries; deal with whatever when we get back home). Ciao!

Bacos....glad you "got out". Welcome Steno! Stay safe everyone. We pulled in all of our deck stuff, have flashlights, batteries, food and water. Family and friends in NJ were told to evacuate . We are considered to be in the city limit of Middletown...not sure what that means at a time like this.

Now I'm worried about what to do with the cars. If we leave them in the garage and lose power, we won't be able to go anywhere. If we park them in the driveway, will they be washed away with the storm??? This is all to stressful. What is everyone else doing?
