That was personal income but the link given does not work so can’t verify that. But the article in today’s Courant says we matched the US growth in personal income so it’s improved. Jay

Is this due to more than just the corporate taxcuts from 35% to 21% resulting in more money transferred to wages? If it’s every state it’s likely CT shared in a tailwind that so did all the other states enjoy alongside us.

Indicators would say it’s the taxcuts and more evidently, it correlates closely with the growth rate of the S&P500 stock market index with only a slight lag.

What's sad here is that your trying to lecture an accountant.

Geff summed it up nicely so I'm not going to go over it again. You can go read his posts.

We know that you hate CT and we know that you left for Virginia. Give it a rest already. Let us wallow in peace with our high taxes, ghettos, and poor Govt services.

PS I got a great price on pepperoni at Big Y last week for 4.99 lb. Bet Virginia can't beat that.

It has absolutely noting to do with corp tax cuts. Please don't fall for that non sense.

We are seeing the highest stock buy backs of all time this year. That is not trickling down to the middle class never has and never will.

Type into google stock buy backs 2018 and read the results.

umm. Read my post. How's a kid going to get from (say) the provinces in Weston to (say) the Stamford mall (such as it is), short of riding his bike? Likewise, how's the stay-at-home spouse going to pick up some vacation dough (say) if they are imprisoned in the boondocks and the huzzie has commandeered the car? For the sake of economy, doncha know. Since he hasn't had a raise in years.

For those who are inclined to be controlling, it's the next best thing to living in a Sharia state. De facto, the kids (who are too young to drive) and the spouses (who may be left without a car, or with an unreliable car, or without enough gas money for the car) are imprisoned. Being imprisoned promotes escape fantasies and drug use amongst the kids once they become adolescents and realize just how well and truly STUCK they are. The equally trapped parent is also despairing.

For many, the CT towns in which they live are desert islands: there is NO ESCAPE.

I think kid may have meant that as soon as wages go up, taxes/fees go up as well. Net zero gain.

Are you kidding me? What are you talking about??? Do you even know Weston or anyone from there? People that move to Weston do so for nature, privacy and quiet, not because they expect mass transit at their front door. Most adults there have cars so spouses being “imprisioned” is pretty much nonexistent. Kids too. Have you not heard of Uber? And believe it or not a lot of people like towns like Weston. That is why people pay a premium to live there. It is not one of the wealthiest towns in the country for no reason. Jay

Is there such a thing as a suburban housewife in a gold plated town who doesn’t have a car? I suppose it’s possible but not in my life experience.

As far as kids go, the whole point of gold plated suburbia is to segregate Junior from the unwashed masses. You are your parents, your schools, and your peer group. This is how socioeconomic segregation works pretty much anywhere in the US.

Here is a great summary of the tax increases over the last 30 years. It’s kind of clear that both Republicans and Democrats are to blame. O’Neill inherited a mess from the notoriously cheap Ella Grasso. Her cheapness left huge holes and problems that O’Neill had to contend with. Weicker, a former Republican, gave us the income tax and Rowland chose to give rebates rather than address a widening issue of pension funding. Then Rell chose to ignore a massive budget deficit and chose to borrow money to close it. And of course we all know about Malloys tax increase. No wonder we have such a mess. Jay.
