In addition, people I know have said that they needed to spend a lot on travel to attend important family events (weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.) and to be an active part of their grandchildren's lives. After 20 Years Away, We Moved Back To Connecticut. Here's Why. - Hartford Courant
I just found out an extended family I have known 50 years, in Stratford for many decades, then moving to nearby Ct towns, will be leaving Ct within 1 month. 6 for Texas, 2 for North Carolina. 2 others left Stratford a few years ago for Illinois. Several have terrific job offers waiting for them, and are already working remotely for their new corporations, in a few cases.

2 are medical professionals, btw.

They do not intend to write an article about leaving, btw.

.
Renters pay property taxes via higher rents than the same building would rent for in a low property tax region.

True this is
In a major City down South for the most part can rent a 2 bedroom place for about $1200 in CT outside the Gold Coast and Gentrified areas in CT that's a 1 bdrm. In the areas mentioned that's a Studio.

Yea I say no tolls unfair to CT residents unless they do away with Sales or Income Tax.

Correct. I rented, for a few years, 1050 sq feet in a high quality Nashville suburb for $1,000 which included
electricity and lawn care, btw. Our local high school sent kids to Ivy League schools every year, too. The house was just 12 years old, in great condition. Property taxes were under $1,500 annually.

"others have claimed that Connecticut’s lack of a major city is a source for its economic woes. Since the recession, job growth has been concentrated mostly in large urban areas, like New York City and Boston, while regions like western Massachusetts, upstate New York and Connecticut have fallen behind, according to the Connecticut Economic Digest"

I just found out one friend left for northern New England and two more are headed out. Houses are on the market already. A neighbor is exploring towns a few states south as well - they expect to be out within 3 years.

So why do Cities of 200 to 500 pop have lower property taxes and more City services then a 100 pop City in CT is the question I ask

Its not the size, as much as cost per govt employee. They do not offer Cadillac pensions and insurance, but rather equal benes vs what the productive private sector has.

I was paying $1100 for a 725sf in north haven in a apt that was built in the 80's. Had to pay for snow removal also on top of that. When I move to sc I paid $850 for a 800sf that was just built the year prior and had gated entry and a zero entry pool.
