Articles on the P&C and State detailing plans to streetscape South Main and Assembly. South Main project is 3 million short on funding so they are reaching out to the State to make up the difference. Assembly is in the early stages with funding going toward planning, sounds like a continuation of what has already been done on the USC side. The new work would occur from Pendleton to Lady St.

Does anyone know when the apartment project on North Main at the old Jim Moore Cadillac site is supposed to begin construction? It was announced last year along with the Bennett apartments at Bullstreet and the 17 story student housing project on Assembly, but I haven't heard anything about it since. Both of the other sites are well into construction already.

I saw an excavator there the past couple of times I’ve drove by, I feel like it should be soon.

Oh really, that's good news. I drove by last week and didn't see anything. Seems like a long time has passed since the approval.

I rode by tonight and did not see any machinery but did notice a Brownfields voluntary cleanup sign posted though I am not sure if that is new.

Based on what Forestcracker said maybe they were taking soil samples/test pits to begin the remediation? Since it was an old car dealership I am sure that there may be underground tanks either for heating oil and maybe gas tanks but who knows....Even if there are no gas tanks on site.. That area has seveal old gas stations nearby that have closed and could have contaminated the ground and petro leeched over to the site along with whatever existed on Sumter Street that was industrial. That entire area was likely light industrial and likely has all kinds of nasties in the ground likely done before regulations

Got a better view of the sign today and Commonwealth Properties is listed as the sponsor of the cleanup so that is a good sign that things are still going forward.

Also did not realize the Lofts on Lincoln were already as far into development as they are. Appears the exterior of the parking garage up and the complex takes up a pretty large area.

Idea I have been thinking about for Columbia that would be unique for the area especially for the Hot Summers.

An Indoor Ski Resort. like this. but to top it off It has an All year around Ice Skating Rink, Hotel etc.
