I oscillate between thinking he should have backed out and acknowledging that his role at UCF was pretty terrible (responding to a crisis) and thinking his offer from Devry was subpar potentially in terms of pay and definitely in terms of prestige. On balance I don't blame him for taking the better offer, though I don't buy his reasoning. Still, I'm hoping he succeeds for the sake of the university.
I suppose it depends on what the standard of success is. Has he outlined his goals/vision for the school during his tenure?
Columbia has done an outstanding job with its electrical box art. I wish Charleston would follow suit. This is something Columbia is most definitely ahead of Charleston on.

Big thank you for trying to get this thread back on track.
(While USC is a big influence on Columbia, I’m wondering why the moderator of this website didn’t step in and suggest diverting the Caslen comments to the existing USC thread)
All cities in SC can learn from each other’s successes as well as importing ideas from outside SC. I’m impressed with West Columbia’s private and public sector efforts to improve the aesthetics of the area closest to the River.

This forum doesn't really have a dedicated moderator; one will step in if a post gets reported but that's about it. But since this is a general thread anyway, I think just about any subject involving Columbia is fair game.
Really sad to see them go, I hope something truly remarkable and worthy of the Tapps building takes its place. This is one building I truly don’t want to see become housing. I think a nice museum or something of the sorts would be just perfect. I also hope the arts center can find another building that works for them.
We’re also losing, IMO, one of the best county council members. Someone willing to dissent even when everyone else approves. To do what’s right. More than likely we’ll now end up with another corrupt politician.
