This is why I hope that downtown Columbia retains a few of its rough edges and doesn't get too Disney-esque.
How cute that Oriana thinks everything originated in Brooklyn. Lucky for us she made her way back to Astoria and didn’t find her way to Immac. Not our fault that she’s clueless and looking for the easiest story ideas. I think NYC needs to worry more about being generic — everyone I know who lives there frequents Starbucks.
NYC, especially Manhattan, has lost a lot of its uniqueness. I particularly lament the Disneyfication of Manhattan. As far as the article is concerned; nothing groundbreaking and nothing particularly interesting.

But Manhattan is still Manhattan and there's no other place in the country remotely like it.
The article isn't groundbreaking, but it's somewhat interesting and a bit concerning I'd say. Obviously every city doesn't have a unique cultural trait that they can market and successfully incorporate into its brand as easily as Nashville, but there's usually something there that can be built upon. I think Columbia was on the right track in this regard with its "Famously Hot" slogan/branding--but then it decided to ditch that for something more generic. https://www.free-times.com/news/loca...0a62854d6.html
The article is somewhat interesting. It is saying we are becoming a homogenous society. There is something to be said for that is happening.
Used to be a brew pub was an interesting concept, now they are all over and beginning to taste like each other. Do we need more heavily tattooed brewmasters......LOL
#Truth I’m really hoping when they redo malfunction junction they’ll add these, and I hope they add them to 20 as they widen it, as well as 26 up to Chapin when they widen it. Just add them as we go now I guess. And according to their estimates it would cost around 27-44 Million to add them to Metro Colas 175 miles of interstate (including 277 which I know isn’t actually an interstate). Sigh...

I emailed and put it into DOTs comment cards when they were discussing plans for Carolina Crosstoads, I got no response regarding the addition of lights for the project. And at 150k-250k for the addition of lights per mile that’s a very small amount of the budget, but DOT can barely keep up with the lights they have now if you’ve ever driven on 526 at night.

I did the exact same thing and never got a response as well. I’m really wanting to know when they’ll announce the next meeting, as that’s the meeting they make the final decision. Then they can finally start.

Agreed, lighting should be added. It should be made a point that this extra cost associated with this would be in the name of safety. In a much less important way, it'll add some vibrancy and give a little more of a city feel. Driving down the interstate around Columbia at night it gets just as dark as some of the backwoods roads.
I remember some years ago even my Dad made an observation of it. After being overseas in large cities for vacation, he came back home and made a point that it's "so dark here"; that you're squinting the whole time while driving.
Rosso closing. what’s the real story? I had a really horrible experience there a couple months back (1 hour wait on entree and after 30 mins said it was coming right out) and have heard lots of similar stories in last six months re service deterioration

I read the comments on FB accompanying that WIS News post and surprisingly a lot of people were saying that if anything, there's too much light pollution and better painting/striping would be more preferable. Some mentioned that lighting interstate exits and interchanges specifically would be a better move.
