Looks like a potentially huge deal for ENC - Scientist from ENC (NCET) are in the running (final 30 proposals) for a 160 million grant from NSF - "If the North Carolina Ecosystem Technology, or NCET, project is chosen, an infusion of $160 million will pour into the region over the next 10 years, potentially igniting a transformative science-based zeitgeist, similar to the launch in 1958 of the acclaimed research institute in the Raleigh area that merged science, academics, government, business and technology." - https://coastalreview.org/2023/12/gr...r-to-triangle/
While I know very little about the industries I have thought that ENC should invest in solar and wind with an eye to the future. Texas has flourished bc of oil, in 50 years ENC could be reapping similar financial benefits from newer forms of energy.
The huge old house on W 5th St next to the railroad tracks has been approved to be renovated into a fraternity house. Its over 4k sq ft, was built in 1905 and will give that stretch of W 5th St a Fraternity/Sorority row/area of 6 different Greek organizations.
The back of the property is the new secured City parking lot. The adjacent property is Nathaniel Village apartments.
Glad the City is giving approval on this. Greenville need's to continue promoting itself as one of the best college towns in the country and a project like this has cultural significance for that purpose.
Step by step, with the Dickinson Ave corridor and now the W 5th St corridor, Greenville is getting better downtown.
I feel bad for the residents of Nathaniel Village that live in the adjacent buildings. Aren’t they senior apartments? That is not compatible zoning at all.

Agreed. Coupled with the eventual streetscape that will be a nice looking corridor.

Working families. It is the best location in Greenville. Adjacent to the bus station, walking distance in downtown and a very nice complex.
