Good article from neo-trans on downtown landscaping and gardens around the SH-W tower. It's not bad but as some in the article noted it could use some improvements including benches. Apparently the corporate elites are worried about homeless people sleeping on benches. Always sad to see how little these guys understand about quality urban design where many different types of people must live together and how beneficial that is for the entire community and society as a whole. Some of these corporate guys couldn't design an urban park to save their Hunting Valley estate. Nonetheless kudos to SHW for their commitment to downtown Cleveland
Not entirely unreasonable. It's right by Public Square, which has long been a homeless congregation spot.

It's something that could be fixed with a little bit of a security presence.

PPG place in Pittsburgh has a public plaza with plenty of seating and private security, and it's also next to market square (roughly equivalent to public square).

It's like the policy makers have never been to another city! This is a solved problem. Pleasant public areas with seating exist all over.

I dont know, the problem definintely is not currently solved at Public Square at all. I honestly avoid it. Not trying to sound any kind of way, but whe nI lived downtown and was harrassed by the homeless every time I went outside, I really don't blame people for this. It's not pleasant.

What's going on with the West Side Market's clock tower reconstruction? We were relaxing with coffee and cookies at the wonderful new Edda coffee bar across the street looking through Edda's huge, inviting windows at the WSM clocktower, and it sure seems this reconstruction has taken an extremely long time. Worst yet, it appears there's some kind of work stoppage. I never see any workers there. There are scaffolding, and concrete barriers and that extension ground crane on W. 25 just sits in the same position and appears frozen. There's still a ton of work to be done with what appears to be a re-pointing of brickwork in the tower and the clock, itself, appears to have been removed.

The WSM is obviously a City gem and not only do I hate seeing its tower sitting there semi-wrecked as it is, but the scaffolding and Jersey barriers are a major pedestrian pain in the arse. I always cross the street over to Market Sq, even if going out of my way just to avoid the construction mess. Does anybody have an update as to what's going on there?

Doing pointing in colder weather is very problematic.

Makes sense... It just seems like the work has been going on for a long time.

It has taken like three years to build a homeless shelter across the street from my office building here in Pittsburgh. It just seems like it takes forever to build/repair anything in this country anymore. I would blame supply chain issues and the labor shortage for sure.

That is where a security presence comes into play.

Public Square is trickier than a private corporate plaza. SW would have more legal room to control what people are doing and kick them out if they are creating trouble (even if that same trouble would be legal at Public Square). They also could set public hours and close off portions of it at night.

^Its a "Public" square! We shouldn't close it or parts of it during certain hours, just we shouldn't close certain streets or sidewalks during certain hours unless necessary for construction or a one-time street fair or something.

Agreed. But on the same token, a security presence 24/7 would be appropriate.
