And I love Pittsburgh and wish it could be much safer, even though it's far from being the worst lol

And yet people in Montreal are freaking about about this level of murders (and shootings).

It's even an election issue.

I’ve mentioned it before, but Boston and it’s immediate neighbors (Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea, etc) do have a rate that’s comparable to the island of MTL. However, as you move further out, you hit Brockton and Lynn which add a few more.

But that’s not even too dissimilar from MTL either as there have been a handful of murders off the island in Laval and Longueuil also.

Boston MSA, in 2021, had a murder rate of 1.8 at year's end.

So that is very very close.

Just north of Boston, the group of towns that make up about 500k people have 0 murders.

Yeah, the combined pop is actually more like 1.5mil than 2.1mil. So it’s a bit off, but in the same ballpark.

But throw in Newton, Quincy, Milton, Dedham and Needham... and now you are closer to 1.8

I was reffering to towns like Camberville (215k), Everett/Chelsea/Revere/Malden/Melrose (200k) and then like Watertown, Arlington, Belmont and Waltham. All those are give/take 500k. Add in Boston, its 1.2mil. Then throw in the rest of the ring and its 1.8-2.0. And less than 40 murders. The MSA has about 4.95 mil people and less than 55 murders,

Greater Montreal including the entire metro would have an even lower murder rate. There are a few murders a year in places like Laval and Longueuil, but not that many really.

The metro area has more than double the island's population, with very few murders in most of the suburbs.

Greater Montreal's murder rate is therefore likely well under 1 per 100,000. Probably in the vicinity of 0.5 or 0.6 per 100,000.

Wow great for Montreal.

Greater Boston, right now, sits at 0.8-1.0 per 100,000 people.

For Montreal, the island is at 2,025,000, 25 murders this year so far = about 1.2 per 100,000

GMA is about 4.3 million, I'm guessing we're at about ~40 murders so 0.93 per 100,000
