Highland Park, IL - 5

Mass shooting/killing in north shore suburb of Highland Park. 5 dead, 16 shot at a July 4th parade just this past noon. Damn, not even the high class suburb didn't escape the tomfoolery you normally hear about in the city.

I grew up in and attended public schools in Meridian. It was a great place to live then, and the schools were fine. From what I've heard, it's drastically changed for the worse now.

I'd be willing to bet that the shooter did not live in Highland Park. And now, 4 hours later, he's probably nowhere near that town.

Police had just IDed the shooter as a 22 year old from the area. But yeah, I'm sure at this point now he's far from there.

Violent night in Newport News. A triple shooting and a double shooting last night a block from each other in the East End resulted in two suffering life-threatening injuries, as well as a deadly shooting this morning near City Center in the Deer Park neighborhood. One of the two in critical is a teenager. That brings them to 12 for the year. Also a woman was shot in Hampton during an argument off Shell Rd over the weekend, who is expected to recover.

Portsmouth very violent as well, 6 shot in 2 days in a series of double shootings. No one was killed, fortunately.

In total, 21 people were shot in the last 5 days around HR. Several had life-threatening injuries but managed to pulled through, which is a good sign that survival rates for severe injuries are improving.
