While many cities are down like Chicago and Philly, and some down by a lot like Charlotte and Columbus, unfortunately Atlanta is one that is up and not just a little bit but a lot, 60% (56 as of 4/23 compared to 35 the same date in 2021). And I thought 2021 was bad (and 2020 for that matter). It's almost like people from those cities where the murders are down are going to Atlanta to commit crimes there (makes me wonder about CLT).

The city population is less than 10% of the metro population, yet at least 30 if not over 40 percent of the homicides in the metro area occur within the city.
A double shooting leaves a 32 y/o woman dead and a man injured in Norfolk, near the Calvert Square projects. Brings their total to 20.
Also a shooting yesterday in Portsmouth leaves a 42 y/o man dead in the troubled Prentis Park neighborhood. They're at 10 for the year after a quiet couple of months.

Norfolk on track to have a homicide rate of around 30/100K this year.
I mean if you look at statistics only, thats what its going to read but the reality is when everything is bad it effect the way everybody in the area thinks... when the homicide rate is high it tells you there's problems going on in the community, homicide rate is the single variable at the top that tell you the mental condition. That effects everybody if you actually live in these areas. There's just more anger going on in the ghettos and this can't be explained with stats other than the basic variable, the homicide rate.
This is an accurate way to gouge safety. Not arbitrary city lines.
CBSA is a better measurement for cities like St Louis and Baltimore there’s no wacky 40+ homicide rates.
I know most if not all US metros hover around the same numbers but that list just show how concentrated the numbers are within the actual city limits... how else can Baltimore having just as many homicides as LA be explained. Why does a random apartment in San bernardino have more visible thug and drug activity than many ones in south central... the concentration of this are different across different cities.

This is a weird take. Why would someone travel across the country for the express purpose of committing a homicide? Reminds me of summer 2020 when everyone wanted to blame the riots happening in their cities on “outside agitators”. ATL has enough of the homegrown criminal element that you don’t need to go searching out of state for blame.
