What stores has SF Union Square lost since the pandemic?
Marni, La Perla, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Zadig&Voltaire, MCM, Vilebrequin.... many of them moved to SJ Valley Fair because of the looting and shoplifting that seems non-stop in SF
Fashion retailer Balenciaga has opened its first Boston location, in a stand-alone, front-entrance space in Copley Place. The 373,000-square-foot building is located within the mixed-use Copley Square development in the Back Bay neighborhood.
Balenciaga’s 3,000-square-foot lease was managed by Velda Turan, SVP of leasing for Copley Place owner Simon Property Group.
The new store showcases Balenciaga’s Raw Architecture concept, which reacts and responds to a building’s existing structural elements. The concept inherently consumes fewer virgin materials and meet strict sustainability requisites, using the qualities of construction as an alternative to decoration.
I think Boston has only lost maybe 1 high-end retailer since the pandemic. Stores like Jimmy Choo, Zadig&Voltaire, Christian Louboutin, D&G, Van Cleef and Arpels are all still in Copley place or Newbury Street. Smash and Grabs have been happening but less so than SF or even Philly. Although I do know the Chanel store on Newbury Street has been hit twice with that car smash and grabs due to its all-glass front.

EDIT: Boston has also lost Vilebrequin
High end stores don’t have as much of a hit as the rest of retail because their clientele will still have money. It’s mostly middle class that loses their stores.

Philadelphia hasn't had issues with smash & grabs, besides that one weekend in 2020 during the George Floyd mess. Plus most luxury retailers in the Philly area are in the burbs, which is much more sheltered.
Chicago and San Fran have been hit hard, although Chicago hasn't lost any luxury retailers, San Fran lost a few.
New York has had a few notable smash & grab incidents, but seems to have calmed down. But the Valentino flagship on 5th Avenue closed, another huge vacancy.
All of the luxury tennants of the Woodlands opened post pandemic (except maybe Louis Vuittion which might’ve opened right before). Prior to this, all of Houston’s luxury shopping was clustered around Westheimer and Post Oak. So it will be interesting to see how it keeps developing.
Anyone from Phoenix have any updates on that new development in Scottsdale?
