Publix and Harris Teeter are both along the same lines. I find that a large portion of products in both stores are extremely expensive. Nice shopping experience but not necessarily easy on the pockets!
I like the idea of Publix being in Charlotte, but our local media is over hyping the brand of Publix..."upscale grocer," and etc. Having been to Publix in its home market of Florida, it's not that special to me. I already like what it's doing to Harris Teeter, HT had altered it coupon policy when it does it coupon events like its Super Doubles is now up to $2 and its Triples have been up to $1.

How did Publix do this? I see 3rd party websites saying that Publix doubles up to 50c but I don't see that on the Publix website. If that's the case then I don't see how that affects HT at all which has a more liberal policy.
Just because the word 'Publix' is in the thread title, doesn't mean that this has to be an "I prefer shopping at Publix/Harris Teeter because _______" discussion.

Publix only double up to 50 cents, but there's no daily limit on the how many coupons can be used and their Florida market doesn't double at all. It is b/c of Publix and the timing of the grand opening of Publix in Tega Cay and Indian Land that HT altered it policy, it is to keep its couponers to keep couponing at HT. Before Publix opened, all their coupon events were up to $1.98 for Super Double and .99 cents for Triples, all these changes occurred around Spring 2012. When Publix opened up in October, all the HTs in South Charlotte had a week long Super Double while the rest of HTs in the South East did not. HT only do about 9 or 10 coupon events (Super Double and Triples) a year besides the daily double of 99 cents.

That sounds like a co-incidence. If the HT doubling policy was up to .98 every day and Publix is .50 then I don't see how changing it is an answer to compete with just a handful of overlapping stores. OTOH I don't know why HT changed their policy.
The Publix website says nothing about doubling. If they are doing it in SC it must be in answer to HT but why hide it on your website or fliers except they don't want any of their other locations to know.

Actually, Ingles doubles up to .50. Don't forget that Ingles & Publix play together in the Upstate.

But ironically there is a Teeter about 30 mins up the road in Hendersonville. But not convenient to my side of town.
I live in florida and use publix a lot, as well as a store called "Sweetbay". Just visited Charlotte and Harris T. WOW, I thought almost all the product prices were much higher than our Fla stores. I couldn't believe some of the price differences and how much hight HT was than what I was used to. Perhaps it's a NC thing, higher taxes etc, don't know.
They had a 12 pack of Coca Cola for over 6.50. We have it for around 5.00, better on sale. That's just one of many price differences I saw. I did notice HT had what I thought was an odd sale method, the cokes were on SALE for much less, but overall, I didn't see as many sales as I am used to. Of course I'm used to my stores, and NC is used to theres, so impressions are subjective.

Sweetbay is Food Lion with some polish on it.
HT keeps the Coca Cola artificially high in order to run a "sale" almost every other week. Recently, the sale was "buy 2 get 3 free", which is essentially 5 for 13.00 or 2.60 each. Every so often, they'll run it at a deceptive "buy 3 get 2 free", which looks the same at first glance but is actually 3.90 each.
