Why traffic does not use the transit:

1. One end of the trip is not served by the transit.

2. The transit does not run at the time the trip must be made, or when the return trip must be made.

3. You have no way to carry all of the products you bought on the transit.

4. You might need your vehicle for something at the other end of the trip.

5. The transit trip takes too long.

6. Riding mass transit vehicles is a security risk.

7. The transit system is unreliable.

8. Some people do not want to waste their time waiting for the transit vehicle to arrive.

9. Some people can't ride transit vehicles because they are allergic to fumes given off by perfumes, cosmetics, or chewing gum used by other riders.

10. Some people won't wait in inclement weather due to health problems.

11. Some are afraid of catching germs from other transit riders.

The most efficient transit system I ever saw had the vehicles moving in rectangular or figure 8 patterns, rather than back and forth along the same straight line. Twice the coverage per vehicle.

Actually #5 to #8 are probably the main reasons people don't use transit. Many systems are unreliable. Many people fear (justifiably or not) for their safety. And time is the biggest factor. I've seen studies for Houston's system that say the biggest reason for giving up transit is that people bought a car. If you have more time than money, transit is a good choice. If you have more money than time, transit has to be fast to be a viable option.

Speaking from experience, MARTA rail is hands-down one of the most reliable ways to get from Point A to Point B that I know.

The trains are very reliable. The info boards let customers know how many minutes until the next train. Customers can view the arrivals online at MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority or by clicking on the transit station icons on Google Maps. MARTA is a great way of getting around the City of Atlanta.

I wasn't referring to any particular system as being unreliable. In some places they have problems keeping their buses running and on schedule, so they are unreliable and people who have a choice don't use transit there.

Long-term parking at all stations are cheaper than the airport. The only thing that annoys me is luggage in the aisles or blocking doors. There are places for luggage on all trains.
