It all seemed rather simple. A prominent trans activist died and family/friends reached out to St. Pat's to have funeral. When word got out who exactly funeral service was for, all heck broke lose.
The family/friends of a self-identified atheist transgender woman deceived the organizers of St Patrick’s Cathedral in order to allow them to host a funeral. Many of the funeral goers were scantily clad, baring their butts, and danced in the aisles. There was a photo of the deceased in the cathedral with the words saint of whores on the photo. The friends who organized the funeral admit they lied to the church and Catholics are rightly upset.
Their religion, their rules. For the life of me I don't know why some want to be associated with religions/organizations/etc. that think their lifestyle is deplorable and a sin, but that's me.

I don't think the Cathedral was deceived. They just reacted to the uproar from some Catholics by saying they were deceived. I scrolled through the video of the funeral and didn't see anyone scantily clad or baring their butts and any references to "whores" that I saw were in Spanish and wouldn't be understood unless you knew Spanish. There was a man dressed as a woman giving one of the eulogies but the Church seems ok with that concept and wouldn't ban a transgender person from entering. The problem happened when the funeral got a lot of media coverage as if St. Patrick's Cathedral was promoting transgender activism so they condemned it in statements.
