Anyone remember Broadway Joe's Restaurant on US 1? I believe it was Joe Namath's chain.
What about being able to park next to MIA and watch the planes land...
The Famous restaurant in South Beach, I had my Bar Mitzvah dinner there...
A & W had a restaurant in South Dade, with curb side service...
Bet it's not the same Shorty's. The one I remember from the 60s had a dirt parking lot, the walls were all screens, there was no air conditioning and you sat at long tables set up like a high school cafeteria with cheap looking red and white vinyl table cloths. But the ribs were so great! Haven't had anything to compare since I left Miami. If I remember correctly, it was at S. Dixie and 104 Street.

I remember the Howard Johnsos's restaurant and hotel where the new Marquis luxury condominium is now on Biscayne Boulevard near I-395.

Does anyone remember or know about a training hotel in downtown,I stayed there back in 1976 for $6.00 a night? There was a Royal Castle right near the hotel. It was a white u-shaped looking building, I am not sure where it was located or the name though.

Yea, its the same Shorty's. Its right behind the Dadeland Metrorail station. Has AC, but still the long family style tables. There are 2 more Shorty's, 1 on Bird Rd and 107 Ave, and 1 in Broward on University Dr And Griffin or Stirling. I like the pork steaks more than the ribs.

"Someone mentioned M. T. Graves, but remember the same guy played a previous science fiction move host called Captain M. T. Space"

The actor's name was Charlie Baxter. He was, among other things, a weatherman on Channel 7. My sister and I got to watch a taping of The Dungeon around 1967, and watched him make himself up as MT Graves - and yes, he was the same guy who played MT Space.

Oh wow what memories.
The Lums in the grove.... Back in the days before mayfare and cocowalk when "Hawk" lived up in the trees at peackock park and "coast" manned the payphone by the shrimpdocks. Oh wait they came in after that didn't they?
The guys and their BMX obsession and boys town.
Polar palace and midway and my ridell convertable hockey skates (forgive the dyslexic spelling).
I have a weird memory of wantting to fall in to the turtle pit at crandon park zoo as a kid. I think I wanted to ride the turtles or something...
Oh the old draw bridge rickebacker.
The twirling shark thing for the seaquirium liiking like the coolest thing on earth.
My mom getting tickets for the flipper show in advance when we had out of town guests. The cheesie wax sharks we got for a quarter from the machines and how warm they were and the way they smelled for weeks.
Catching my first glimps of a porn film as we drove by the drive in late one night.
Hanging out at sewer beach at night.
Attempting to learn to windsurf though I can't remember exactly where that happened.
That tree house everyone seemed to hang out in.
Orange bowl concerts... the one place you wouldn't end up getting a contact high.
Herman and McBean waking me up every morning.
Was Dr.Demento on Y-100 or 95 or was that on Wshe too?
The huge gator they had to get off the bridge between NorthGlade elm and LakeStevens making the news.
What station was it that announced the days school lunches and junk like that in the mornings?
Going to herbbies pizza for lunch durring my short stint at south miami high.
When the arts festival was free and you could afford to grab a drink or a bite there.
When the bed races were actually cool to go to.
Heck when any of the festivals were actually worth attending.
When all the malls were open air shopping centers.
The little place on useless one where they sold the greatest key lime pies on earth!
When monty trainers was actually a cool little joint.
I'm half asleep so the name excapes me but the big old soposidly haunted hotel that was closed for like forever.
All the old mom and pop shopes that were on the beach and in the grove.
That head shop in the grove that had that giant bong in the window.
Oh Unicorn Village. they had a vegitarian resteraunt and a cool ecclectic hippie type shop wich was the greatest place to find berkenstocks and alo everything.
The planetarium and the lazer light shows.
A cow pasture next to a bank in oppa locka I think it was.

My sleep deprived mind is screamming about a billion other things but I can't keep myself focused to type so I think I'll call in sick and get some sleep now.

Metrorail wasn't built when I left Miami, but I seem to remember that Dadeland was at US 1 & Kendall Dr, but I'm thinking Shorty's was at 104 St. Maybe it's in a different location now?

I've gotta try those posrk steaks next time I'm in town!

Yeah, Charlie Baxter, thanks for the memory jog! I've lived in several media markets, and he was by far the best monster movie/science fiction movie host I've ever watched! He was usually better than the movie!

The name Charlie Baxter rang a bell and when I googled it I realized this was the guy from Toby the Robot, a show I used to watch as a kid. It would come on really early in the morning on Sundays and they'd read the Sunday comics. Ah, memories.

No, it hasnt moved. It is between Kendall and 104th street. If you havent seen Dadeland since Metrorail, you wouldnt believe your eyes. They have built an entire City around the Mall, with high rise condos everywhere.

Does anyone remember a bar in South Miami called "Your Fathers Moustache"? I used to play darts there on the weekends.
