I wonder what this will do to the university.
While the incident was off-campus, if I had a child attending the U of I right now, they would be coming home for Thanksgiving and would stay put in my house until the killer was arrested.
This could turn into a cold case, which may never be solved. Hope not.

I agree. How the two remaining roommates didn't react to the struggle is perplexing.

Police said the roommates heard noise and the 'locked their bedroom doors".

Furthermore, it was stated by the coroner that at least one of the girls had defensive wounds on her hands, so we know she was awake for the struggle.

I read that the house had two bedrooms on each of three floors. It was the ground floor rooms that were not affected. Perhaps the killer didn’t know there were bedrooms downstairs.

On the other hand, I read the house had an electronic lock and there were no signs of a break-in. So either someone left it unlocked (and it didn’t have an automatic locking function.) or the killer knew the combo.

Also, the dog in the house was uninjured. May have been shut up in one of the downstairs bedrooms, but, if not, did the dog know the attacker?

It would appear the killer was not familiar with the layout of the house since he skipped the two downstairs bedrooms.

I doubt he was after all 4 people. Perhaps the others heard something and walked in on him.

I worked and lived in Moscow in 1979, just out of college. Yep, pretty quiet town where little ever happens. This indeed is a shock for this small university town. I actually rented an apartment from near
the scene of the murders. This event may or may not change the image of the town, but hopefully things will get back to normal soon.

Why not? If he saw 4 people out for a night on the town, he could have fixated on all 4 of them, for no rational reason.

All 4 were not out together that night.

Me, too.
But if it does, recent developments in technology have warmed a bunch of stone cold old cases. So I tend to think this one won't stay cold for very long if it goes cold.

I worry more outsider speculation will send the cops chasing down the wrong trail.

The Moscow Police Dept. is under an immense amount of outside pressure to get this solved ASAP right now, and that's not good. When that pressure rose in Florida over little Kaylee Anthony's death, her mother Casey got off forever when she was found not guilty.
...and Casey was everyones most likely suspect.

I don't want that to happen here. We all need to use some self-discipline, stay as quiet as we can, and let the cops do their work. if they need any more fresh ideas, the cops will call for them.
