Yes, Bonnie, an incredible time. Was there any other place quite like Ft. Lauderdale in the '80s? I don't think so. Ft. Lauderdale WAS the '80s. Whew! I get tired just thinking about it.

Hey, thanks to all the folks out there who helped make it a great time for me!

OK, this is not nightlife-related, but does anyone remember the IGBE (International Gold Bullion Exchange) scandal of the 1980s in Ft. Lauderdale? Definitely part of Ft. Lauderdale history, lol. The mayor presented them with the keys to the city, as I recall. Ft. Lauderdale's business "success story". Until the scheme collapsed and they found nothing but gold painted wooden bars in the vault.

But before it all came crashing down, those folks sure could party, they were legendary.

I met the brothers who had their offices in the same building as my attorney at the time.

William and James Alderdice.

James got a 10-year sentence, served five years, then became a preacher.
William was murdered while out on bail.

"I met the brothers who had their offices in the same building as my attorney at the time".

Never met them myself, although I did once see the younger brother, James, at a social gathering. He was quite the center of attention at the time, although the unfocused stare due to his eyesight was a bit off-putting.

Both brothers were said to be very bright, if a bit thuggish. They could have gone legit and I think probably meant to, in the beginning, but they were surrounded by lots of yes-men and women and things sort of got out of hand, with the lifestyles and all. A pity.
